Senior Finance Manager (Accounting)

Location: Sheffield, UK

About the role:

This is a hands-on leadership role with a broad scope, responsible for delivering accurate and timely internal and external financial reporting for a portfolio of EMEA entities in a fast-paced rapidly growing private equity backed group.

This role requires a strong leader with an appetite to shape their growing team to deliver on process improvements and efficiencies as the Aptean group continues to grow through acquisition. As well as overseeing day-to-day processing responsibilities, the postholder will be the designated lead for onboarding of accounting activities for regular new acquisitions, and may be required to travel overseas on occasion in order to oversee this aspect of the role.   • Manage the month end close timetable for c.50 EMEA trading entities, including liaising with colleagues in other regions, to ensure that all financial transactions are correctly processed and appropriately reflected in the GL on a timely basis.
  • Present commentary on the results of the business to the global Accounting and FP&A teams on a monthly basis, including analysis vs budget and trend.
  • Ensure monthly balance sheet reconciliations are performed and variances are investigated and reported in a timely manner.
  • Coach and develop the GL accounting team and the UK-based AP team, providing opportunities for challenge and progression.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for procedural improvements to improve efficiency and quality, and work to implement these to position the business for growth.
  • Work collaboratively with the overseas Shared Service Centre, liaising with them regarding the delivery of their Accounting and AP responsibilities and reviewing and directing their work as appropriate.
  • Support with the preparation of individual entity TBs for the purpose of financial statements preparation and audit. Act as a key contact for both the Group and Regional audit teams, providing timely and quality information about the entities in scope.
  • Assist with the onboarding of regular new acquisitions, understanding legacy processes and transactions and mapping these to Aptean standard processes for a smooth transition.
  • Support the AP team with the accurate and efficient coding of vendor invoices, building out controls to improve consistency in this area and prepare for growth.


About you:
  • Required: Solid understanding of Accounting standards
  • Preferred: accounting/finance experience in a global software industry
  • A secure knowledge of technical accounting principles backed by a recognized professional accountancy qualification.
  • The position requires a high level of commitment and the ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • An experienced leader that inspires the best in their team and is not afraid to roll their own sleeves up and get their hands dirty.
  • A disciplined self-starter with a 'can do' attitude who is able to work within a matrix organization.
  • Must have a critical eye for accuracy, data integrity, process issues and improvements.
  • A flexible and adaptable mindset, experienced in change management and calm in the face of pressure.
  • Excellent analytical skills including the ability to analyse large and complex data sets in order to summarise in a simple, effective way.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills.
