Wireless RF Compliance Systems Engineer (SAR/MPE)

Apple's SAR Engineering team is looking for an engineer to work on RF Exposure (SAR/MPE) characterization across different wireless technologies for Apple's wireless products.

Description

- Work closely with in-region CM/Factory counterparts and internal teams in planning/executing on product development and validation activities. - Travel to in-region CM/Factory locations to debug the issue and bring up the test setups. - Understanding device to device variation by characterizing radiated and conducted KPI's and performing marginality analysis. - Validating RF Exposure test cases for different regulatory domains in certification test setups. - Translating WW regulatory requirements into test cases. Coordinating with regulatory compliance teams to ensure product validation covers all certification tests. - Define/execute validation plan for RF Exposure facing SW features. - Debugging marginal/failure tests with cross-functional teams like RFHW /Antenna/ Product Design/EE and drive design changes to address issues. - Maintain test setups via periodic checks and calibration. - Help Regulatory Compliance teams in planning/executing on final certification testing at 3rd party test labs.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Contract Manufacturers and Factory teams on product development, validation activities, and test setup deployment.
  • Travel to manufacturing locations to debug issues, establish test setups, and ensure compliance validation capabilities.
  • Characterize device-to-device variation by analyzing radiated and conducted KPIs and performing marginality analysis.
  • Validate RF Exposure test cases for multiple regulatory domains and certification requirements.
  • Translate worldwide regulatory requirements into comprehensive test cases and coordinate with compliance teams.
  • Define and execute validation plans for RF Exposure software features and system-level components.
  • Debug marginal/failing tests with cross-functional teams (RFHW, Antenna, Product Design, EE) and drive design improvements.
  • Maintain test equipment and setups through regular calibration, performance verification, and preventive maintenance.
  • Support third-party certification testing by planning and executing validation activities at authorized laboratories.
  • Develop technical documentation including test procedures, characterization reports, and compliance validation summaries.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS degree in technical discipline with minimum 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Working experience with different wireless communication systems such as GSM/UMTS/LTE, 802.11xx, Bluetooth including the corresponding system level specifications (e.g., ETSI 51.010, 51.05).
  • Working experience with regulatory requirements and certification process for wireless consumer devices, including FCC, PTCRB, CTIA, ETSI, 3GPP.
  • Excellent communication skills required, both written & verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS degree in technical discipline with minimum 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Working experience of antenna design and tests, in particular hands-on experience for compliance measurements.
  • Experience with 5GmmWave standard and/or hands-on chamber/system level understanding.
  • Experience with Antenna/EM simulation tools.

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $147,400 and $272,100, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
