Description

APPLE INC has the following available in Cupertino, California and various unanticipated locations throughout the USA. Design investigations to characterize power consumption of various intellectual property blocks and system components under typical customer usage scenarios to validate engineering target accomplishment and support marketing claims regarding battery life and system performance across the Mac portable and desktop product lines. Leverage Python and Unix shell scripting to execute test scenarios, sequence test setup and management of experimental variables, and extract logs and key value pairs to inform data analysis and visualization. Execute electrical schematic review and power data collection to perform power triaging and debugging to identify root causes of performance regressions resulting from firmware/software, silicon, and electrical and computer engineering design issues. Leverage lab equipment including digital multimeter, source meter, oscilloscope, and power supplies to accurately determine system power consumption and support troubleshooting and debug efforts when issues are detected. Maintain overall status of new product introduction process and provide project updates to senior management, including management of testing schedule, reporting of current test results, escalation of schedule impacting issues, and verification of achievement of all requirements requiring familiarity with environmental and legal regulatory mandates. Present findings to the cross-functional team tasked with optimizing power, performance, acoustics, and thermals for Mac products. Drive troubleshooting and debugging efforts to address power impacting issues across software and hardware teams and validate proposed solutions for expected impact. Identify gaps in current test coverage and consult with test automation development teams to define new testing, improve efficiency an accuracy in current testing, and ensure consistency in test coverage to enable comparison to previous generations. Perform post-mortem analysis to collect lessons learned, identify potential issue escapes, and highlight opportunities for future design changes to drive continuous improvements in the product. 40 hours/week. At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $146,307 - $205,500/yr and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field and 1 year of experience in the job offered or related occupation.
  • 1 year of experience with each of the following skills is required:
  • Using Python to perform data analysis and visualization
  • Utilizing Unix shell scripting in a testing environment
  • Leveraging electrical schematics to perform power triaging and debugging
  • Utilizing lab equipment measure system and component power consumption
  • Documenting issues in an internal bug-tracking tool
  • Using Jira Confluence to track project timelines
  • Using SOC power management design concepts and implementation,
  • Knowledge of DC/DC and AC/DC power supply and buck/boost converter operation and efficiency measurement
  • Using statistical analyses to perform post-test hypothesis confirmation
