Description

APPLE INC has the following available in San Diego, California. Work with the Hardware/Software development teams and other cross functional teams on identifying and characterizing issues impacting the Cellular performance on 4G and 5G systems. Design field test plans, run Cellular trials in multiple markets and put detailed test reports. Perform deep dive analysis into internal logs to understand and identify root cause of any Hardware/System issues. Plan and execute complex Cellular field test setups in 4G/5G and adapt on the fly to tackle failures, User Experience/Network issues through on-the-go log analysis and communication issues with engineering teams. Collaborate with Cellular Architecture teams to determine Cellular link budgets and conduct wireless feasibility studies. Evaluate the overall User performance of Apple Wireless products in the field using Antenna architecture and radio frequency (RF) front-end block. Analyze Call Drops/Setup Failures, Data throughput issues, and Cellular Service Retention gaps from L1, MAC, RLC, RRC, PDCP, and AP perspective. Run filed replays in the lab using 4G/5G Call Boxes/RF Shield Boxes to augment field issue debugs and fix verification. Present field finding to cross-functional teams and senior leadership in a concise manner and influence product go/no-go decisions for new tentpole features around Cellular call and data performance, power optimization features and new Carrier deployments like new radio access technologies and frequency bands. Optimize and innovate field tests and drive on-paper ideas to fruition through effective collaboration with cross-functional and automation teams. Evaluate the latest iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch hardware systems in the field, from early prototype to final products, on different network and wireless technologies, including performance metrics creation, evolution, post processing and analysis of device logs from the field. Domestic travel required 30%. 40 hours/week. At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $157,000 - $236,300/yr and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Wireless Communications or related field and 4 years of experience in the job offered or related occupation.
  • 4 years of experience with each of the following skills is required:
  • Using mobile and cellular technologies for evaluating cellular performance.
  • Experience testing, analyzing, and issuing resolution of 5G/4G communications systems for understanding field test methodologies.
  • Experience analyzing Voice and Data Call Flows related, including understanding RRC and NAS and IMS stack messages.
  • Analyzing and debugging various layers of the Cellular Protocol stack (Layer 1, Mac, RLC or PDCP), including reviewing Cellular baseband and telephony layer logs and understand issue root causes.
  • Writing and running scripts in Python or Perl to parse performance metrics from cellular log traces, lab automation in call boxes.
  • Evaluating and characterizing performance of the devices in live network.
  • Utilizing testing methodologies and debugging capabilities for 4G/LTE and other wireless communication systems.
  • Experience in radio protocol stack, including performing comprehensive technical reviews of new cellular features and disseminating it to the field engineering organization.
  • Performing lab sanity with UE/Channel emulators
