Description
APPLE INC has the following available in Cupertino, California and various unanticipated locations throughout the USA. Research, design, and develop computer and network software or specialized utility programs. Analyze user needs and develop software solutions, applying principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis. Design and develop software for rendering maps on computing device displays ranging from Apple Watch to Apple TV. Designing, prototyping, and implementing solutions to the challenges of rendering an interactive, three-dimensional model of the world that is constantly updated by fetching new data over the network in highly compressed formats, and on which users can add their own overlays and annotations. Utilize C++ for high-performance computational geometry for large-scale software system design for multiple platforms, tile loading, and maps simulation. Knowledge of the 3D graphics pipeline, modern rendering techniques, and image processing, including the mathematics required for these. Perform debugging and profiling and the analyze all axes of system performance, from frame rate to power consumption. Design client-server application architecture, REST API design, and high-performance process of data in distributed systems that can support Apple's browser-based map-rendering clients, which include both JavaScript and WebAssembly applications. 40 hours/week. At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,800 - $264,200/yr and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computational Design or a related field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or related occupation.
- 2 years of experience with each of the following skills is required:
- Using C++ to contribute across the stack of a high-performance, real-time map or game rendering engine. This includes modern algorithms for data loading and management, generic
- C++ template programming in support of flexible architectural concepts, and optimized linear algebra libraries.
- Using 3D Graphics pipeline, modern rendering techniques, and image processing to efficiently present 3D data on a range of mobile and desktop devices. This includes using advanced
- blending and lighting techniques in pixel or fragment shaders, evaluating image formats for fast network transfer and fast client-side decoding, and taking advantage of GPU architectures
- and modern graphics APIs, such as Metal and WebGL, and their shading languages, such as MSL, HLSL/FLSL, and WGSL, to do so efficiently.
- Using Software Testing Methodologies to design and write tests that ensure the validity of the algorithms as well as the measurement of their performance. These tests must run across
- multiple platforms and may require the evaluation of the available open-source frameworks, such as GoogleTest.
- Using Linear Algebra to solve problems in 3D geometry in order to dynamically position the camera on the map and to animate map elements in the view
- Performing client-server application architecture, REST API design, and high-performance process of data in distributed systems in order to send data to map applications to be
- rendered.
- Using JavaScript and WebAssembly applications to perform browser-based map-rendering.
