Simulation SW Development Engineer

As a member of the Satellite Connectivity Group, you will work on the satellite network that enables connectivity to iPhone and Watch Ultra when off the grid without cellular or Wi-Fi coverage. Every day, Apple customers use Emergency SOS, Roadside assistance, and Messages via satellite to stay connected when they have no other means to communicate. Apple is seeking a simulation software engineer to build software for operation and analysis of our satellite connectivity programs. This person will develop critical operational software for existing and new systems, validate its functionality in depth, and support it in production. They will also develop modeling and analysis software to evaluate design proposals, quantify performance, and characterize user experience for Apple customers around the world.
Description
The successful candidate must have a strong record of software development, and building simulation and analysis tools from first principles. Fluency in applied mathematics and cloud development are both highly valued. The candidate must have a curious and analytical mind that can simultaneously see the big picture and drill down into the details. An individual with initiative will find a wealth of opportunities to make substantial impact. Core responsibilities: - Develop, validate, and support production-quality software for system physics (orbital mechanics, RF propagation, network modeling). - Understand our software stack end-to-end and how it impacts operations, proactively spot problems, and repair any issues to minimize system interruptions. - Develop and maintain simulation software that performs capacity analysis and trade studies. - Perform analysis of system performance, communicate findings to the team and cross-functional partners, and work collaboratively to improve the system.
Minimum Qualifications
- Excellent geometry, spatial reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
 - Demonstrated proficiency in C/C++ or other systems programming languages.
 - 5+ years experience with software development for mathematical modeling and simulation, and familiarity with industry best practices.
 
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong understanding of physics and dynamical systems.
 - Proficiency in Python, Julia, or MATLAB.
 - Strong analysis skills.
 - Experience in cloud development.
 - Comfortable working in a dynamic, small team environment. Able to work through ambiguity.
 - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, solid teamwork and leadership skills.
 - MS/PhD in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related discipline.
