In this role, you will be responsible for Maps Navigation Services-including the navigation engine and platform that powers the top customer use case of Apple Maps-as well as for services for location technology serving all Apple devices. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Technical ownership and oversight of the Maps navigation/routing engine across all modalities. Technical ownership and oversight of location-based services for the Maps Geo Platform which provides positioning and location-based information to all Apple devices. Technical ownership of other critically-important platform services that provide Apple hardware, software and services with market-leading experiences. Employee development and mentorship. They collaborate effectively with partner and product teams to define goals, set expectations, and shape roadmaps. As a leader, you will provide both technical and career mentorship, empowering your team to succeed. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for communicating technical complexities clearly to engineering partners, product management teams, and executives across Apple.
Minimum Qualifications
- 10+ years of engineering management experience, involving mentoring of individual contributors (ICs) both as engineers, but as possible future leaders.
- Experience building high-scale, low-latency systems and pipelines to process telemetry data from billions of devices.
- Comfort with ambiguity in projects and evolving requirements.
- Proven track record of developing a product vision, achieving cross-functional alignment and executing on it.
- Ability to empathize with the customer and to appreciate what makes for excellent customer experiences.
- Proven ability to translate requirements from design to implementation, both independently and within larger teams.
- Demonstrated ability to actively manage team performance and take ownership of driving outcomes.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in computer science or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters or PhD degree in computer science, mathematics or algorithms engineering.
- Professional or research-level experience with shortest-path algorithms.
- Experience with AI/ML systems, including large-scale ML models, deep learning and generative AI.
- Experience developing navigation systems across modalities such as driving, transit, walking, cycling and hiking.
- Experience with geospatial data and/or systems is a plus.
- Experience leading engineering and R&D organizations with a mix of highly-specialized research engineers along with more-traditional software engineering roles.
- Ability to lead software teams in multiple geographic locations, with direct customer impact for business-critical functionality.
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $252,400 and $378,700, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
