Platform Quality Engineer in Core OS

Are you passionate about working on complex software features? Are you interested in driving the high-quality standards in Apple's products? The Core Platform organization within Core OS is seeking a talented and dedicated engineer to join the Quality Engineering team. As a key member of the team, you'll focus on ensuring the software quality of multiple projects that underpin the core technologies essential for delivering new Apple Silicon. Collaborating closely with development teams, your responsibilities will encompass all phases of software delivery for Apple's products, from early design to product launch and beyond.

Description

You'll play a crucial role in ensuring that the code produced by Core Platform meets our high-quality standards by designing, developing, automating, and running tests to ensure the code's quality. When bugs are discovered, you'll root cause the issue by thoroughly analyzing the code, debugging, and collaborating with partner teams to resolve the issues promptly and prevent code flow disruptions. Additionally, you'll develop solutions that help us find the signal in the noise, uncovering the elusive bugs to ensure our customers have the best possible experience with our hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Curate and run thorough test plans that defend code quality at the core of new Apple Silicon.
  • Drive debugging and troubleshooting efforts with cross-functional partners to root cause uncovered bugs.
  • Develop solutions to manage a high volume of bug reports.
  • Lead QA efforts supporting new features across a wide range of technology areas with other quality teams in software and hardware organizations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proficient in source code tracking software such as git to manage and integrate changes to large code bases.
  • Strong Python programming skills with demonstrated experience writing test automation scripts and frameworks.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present technical findings to diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with debugging software such as LLDB and debugging strategies to investigate and debug large software systems.
  • Previous exposure to hardware bring-up and testing on early prototype devices.
  • Familiarity with fundamental computer architecture topics and core operating system components.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and cross-functional environment, collaborating with hardware engineers, software developers, and program managers.
