Design, develop, and launch next-generation light-sensing technologies. Bring devices to life and enable them to interact with users and the environment in ways never invented before. The optical sensing team designs and integrates sensors across a variety of Apple products such as iPhone, Watch, iPad, MacBook and Vision. The team is looking for someone who is a hard-working go-getter. The Laser Sensing Hardware group designs sensors and illuminators for Apple products, including components of the revolutionary FaceID system and digital crown in Apple Watch Ultra. This multi-disciplinary group of engineers are responsible for architecture, design, and manufacturing development of new sensing solutions. The team is looking for someone who knows semiconductor lasers and is a dedicated go-getter. Experience with photodiodes is a plus. Key Qualifications
- Strong device-physics background, with a solid understanding of semiconductor physics, device process in semiconductors, and driver-level analog EE. Knowledge and experience in III-V laser devices, such as VCSELs, edge-emitting lasers or LEDs is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with laser device, module and system characterization, including laser LIV, SMSR, polarization, far-field beam profile, optical system alignment, etc.
- Hands-on experience with optical lab equipments including laser drivers, optical metrology (spectrometers, oscilloscopes, microscopes and free space optics).
- Experience in a typical programming language (matlab, python, etc) for modeling, data collection and analysis.
- Demonstrated track record in delivering semiconductor device technologies from early concept scoping to engineering development, and finally to production in high volume is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proven collaboration skills in a highly multi-functional team environment.
Description
- Design validation of VCSELs, photodiodes, and related semiconductor devices for laser sensing applications. - Establish hardware test benches in the optical lab and device/system characterization to implement the design. - Analyze data to draw conclusions, improve product design/manufacturability. - Work closely with multi-functional teams and engage vendors for prototyping and engineering development - Lead in FA activities (failure mode analysis and root-cause diagnosis) and strive to successful delivery of the component. In all of this work, you need to be an effective communicator - both to collaborate with multi-functional teams and present to executive management on key developments / issues.
Education & Experience
BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience

- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $138,900.00 and $256,500.00, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
