Apple is seeking a creative and dedicated Optical Module Engineer to contribute to the definition and delivery of innovative optical technologies for Apple's next-generation products. A successful candidate will possess exceptional technical skills and strong communication and leadership abilities to collaborate effectively with various Apple internal cross-functional teams and external suppliers. In this role, you will be instrumental in defining critical optical module performance and integration requirements, developing key display features, and implementing effective testing and calibration strategies. Additionally, you will support the module development process from prototype to mass production. This position provides you with a unique opportunity to translate key product requirements into hardware and features essential for delivering exceptional optical solutions and experiences across Apple's next-generation products.

Description

- Define optical module and feature requirements, including prototype and validation strategies. - Support daily activities related to build execution, module setup, data analysis, module failure analysis, and system integration. - Facilitate technical discussions with vendors and internal cross-functional teams. - Collaborate to establish optical module test and calibration requirements. - Champion innovation and introduce new technologies to improve Apple's optical performance and user experience. - Develop prototypes to demonstrate proposed solutions and conduct comprehensive trade-off analysis. - Effectively communicate the advantages, disadvantages, and risks to the broader team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: optical design or architecture definition for augmented reality (AR) or virtual reality (VR); module requirement definition, design, and integration; display/system architecture; optical characterization; numerical modeling; image/video processing and machine learning; human and visual perception; and psychophysical studies.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is a plus: development of optical module architectures from concept phase to MP; display technologies (e.g. µOLED, µLED); vendor management and multi-functional collaboration; software/algorithm development, programming (Python, Matlab); display pipeline optimization.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Optics, EECS, Physics, or a related field with 4+ years of experience in the relevant industry.

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $214,500, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
