Description

APPLE INC has the following available in San Diego, California. Develop and execute mechanical designs for multiple flat panel display module programs for Apple's consumer electronic products. Investigate state-of-the-art mechanical designs and technologies to innovate ways to further improve Apple display performance and enable strong and compact system designs. Define the module mechanical architecture based on optical, electrical, mechanical, and other cross-functional requirements. Work with system teams to define the interface to the product including fit, assembly features, and tolerance analyses. Deliver required display specifications including 3D and 2D display features. Achieve system goals through mechanical design optimization, prototyping, new material qualification, and manufacturing processes. Audit factories to review the manufacturing and assembly at each step to ensure high yield and high quality. Define and implement validation plans for mechanical engineering characteristics of the display modules using scientific and analytical approaches. Drive thorough failure analyses for any issues to reach robust corrective actions. Ensure the specifications are met throughout the supply chain. Communicate validation results to peers and leadership. Act as a focal point among cross-functional teams and suppliers to identify open issues, drive them to closure, and deliver mechanically robust displays. Support the product throughout the architecture, engineering development, mass-production ramp-up, and launch. International Travel Required 20%. 40 hours/week. At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $147,754 - $204,000/yr and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or related occupation.
  • 2 years of experience with each of the following skills is required:
  • Utilizing 3D Modeling, including experience creating and optimizing compact and robust mechanical designs
  • Manufacturing experience for mechanical module components and assemblies, including experience in prototyping, printed circuit boards, machining, injection molding, optics components, electronics, GD&T, and 6-Sigma.
  • Performing root cause and failure analysis experience and drive proper corrective actions, including experience developing Custom Mechanical Testing (requiring ME design and development)
  • Performing engineering calculations, including structure mechanics, flexural analysis, tolerance analysis, and heat transfer etc.
  • Drafting technical specifications for mechanical design prototyping, optimization and new material qualifications.
