Machine Learning Engineer, Siri Automatic Speech Recognition

Join a critical team at the heart of speech model development. Our team is responsible for creating the high-quality, large-scale datasets that power Apple's next-generation speech models. We specialize in the automatic annotation and extraction of rich metadata from vast audio datasets, enabling groundbreaking advancements in speech understanding and generation. We are a data-driven team that combines machine learning, data science, and efficient engineering to solve complex challenges at petabyte scale. As a member of this team, you will design, build, and refine the systems that turn raw audio into structured, insight-rich data for our modeling partners. You will not only develop the pipelines but also analyze the data's quality and impact, and improve the specialist models that make our automatic annotation possible. Your work is foundational, directly influencing the performance and capabilities of state-of-the-art speech technologies. You should be enthusiastic about building robust, efficient, and intelligent data solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D in Computer Science or Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in machine learning with focus on automatic speech recognition
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL
  • Strong problem-solving and data analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have contributed to shipping models/products to production
  • Experience with foundation models
  • Experience with large scale data processing (e.g., Spark, Dask, Ray) and a mindset for writing efficient, scalable code
  • Understanding of machine learning fundamentals and practical experience with ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow).

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $162,500 and $286,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
