Apple's Real Estate, Design, and Merchandising team (RDM) creates and cares for Apple Stores that look, feel, and function as beautifully as our products. We do this by obsessing over the employee and customer experience. The Apple Innovation Studio is a team of Architects, Industrial, Graphic, Furniture and Fixture Designers responsible for creating the future of Apple Retail store design. We are a passionate team with deep expertise in architectural and product design, 3D modeling, AR and VR visualization, physical mockups and prototyping. Our experience extends to material science, environmental research, biomechanics, color theory, lighting, Universal Design, engineering, ergonomics, manufacturing, and product testing. We work closely with all of Apple Retail Design including Apple Industrial Design, Merchandising, Marcom, and Store Journey Design. We are looking for an Industrial or Furniture Designer with a passion for discovery and the ability to create extraordinary design solutions that bring surprise and delight to the Apple Retail experience.

Key Qualifications

  • 5+ years work experience and a Professional Degree in Architectural or Industrial Design with experience in furniture design, prototyping and fabrication a bonus
  • Deep appreciation for aesthetics
  • Passion for materials and material exploration
  • Self-motivated and agile learner
  • Healthy obsession with how things are made and how they work
  • Appreciation for human factors in design
  • Design intelligence: mechanical intuition, creative problem solving, spatial reasoning, devotion to detail
  • Proven strong team skills and the ability to develop meaningful partnerships with internal design and technical team members, cross-functional experts and outside vendors to optimize designs for function, aesthetics, and manufacturability
  • Ability to mange time and workflow across multiple, simultaneous projects
  • Proficiency in 3D visualization tools such as Rhino, SolidWorks, KeyShot, Unity, Unreal Engine, etc.
  • Understanding and appreciation of hands-on prototyping, and it's relationship to virtual design tools
  • Radical creativity

Description

In this role you will work with the Senior Designers in the Innovation Team to create compelling and innovative solutions to a wide variety of design initiatives including merchandizing, fixture, product and furniture designs. Facilitate design studies by developing options for consideration. Work with internal design and technical team members, cross-functional experts and outside vendors to optimize designs for function, aesthetics, and manufacturability. Develop necessary technical knowledge in areas outside your realm of expertise to understand other teams' design constraints and craft creative solutions to technical problems. Produce presentation computer models, drawings and visualizations of initiatives in development for internal reviews: Design Review, Creative Review and Executive Review. Produce 3D visualizations, technical drawings and computer models to support detailed product or system development. Coordinate with consultants and vendors who produce mockups and prototypes, procure samples, and complete shop drawings. Produce assets used to integrate the final innovation design into Retail Standards documentation. Organize and maintain records of design studies, presentations, mockups, reviews, vendor visits, prototypes and other creative deliverables to ensure documentation of the lifecycle of each initiative.

Pay & Benefits

    At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $82,400.00 and $158,100.00, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

    Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.
