Apple's Graphics, Games, and Machine Learning Software team develops Metal, an API for GPU programming that allows efficient use of the GPU and minimizes CPU overhead. The Metal Developer Tools team is responsible for developing the Metal Debugger, a full featured GPU debugger and profiler, and Metal System Trace, a CPU and GPU runtime analysis tool for Metal. The Metal Developer Tools team is looking for an engineer who wants to develop the best GPU performance analysis developer tools. The ideal candidate will have a passion for creating the best possible GPU performance analysis tools and a strong background in GPU architecture, performance analysis, data collection and data processing who is excited to shape the future of Metal Performance Developer Tools.

Description

In this role, you'll be responsible for developing new performance analysis tools that help graphics and pro app developers to easily find GPU performance bottlenecks for the entire gamut of Apple GPUs. Building on a strong foundation of computer architecture and operating system fundamentals, data structure and algorithms, you'll write highly efficient code to analyze large amount of profiling data and then using that data to creatively identify intuitive solutions for finding and addressing performance bottlenecks. You will be working closely and collaboratively with partners across both software and hardware teams to fully realize the capabilities of Apple's best in class GPUs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Technical BS/MS degree / Equivalent Experience.
  • Technical expertise in the area of GPU performance optimizations or GPU architecture
  • Excellent programming skills and knowledge of C/C++
  • Knowledge of GPU APIs such as Metal, Direct3D, Vulkan or OpenGL

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical understanding of the graphics and compute pipelines of modern GPU's
  • Experience developing GPU performance analysis and profiling tools
  • Systems engineering experience or low-level hardware experience
  • Experience with GPU performance optimizations

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
