Darwin Runtime Manager
The Core OS software team is looking for an exceptional software engineering manager to lead kernel and runtime technologies for Apple's operating systems. This team is responsible for development and evolution of low-level user space libraries like GCD, IPC technologies like XPC, pthread, malloc, etc to contribute to the success of the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Watch, Apple TV, and Vision Pro product lines. Core OS works with many teams across the company to provide a stable, fast, and high-quality foundation on which iOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS frameworks and applications can be developed.

Leadership and management of a team of talented runtime engineers in a fast-paced and demanding development environment Ownership of low-level libraries Working with cross-functional teams to design, plan, and deliver high quality software features for our operating system Creating and promoting a development environment that encourages innovation and sets high standards for quality and productivity Identifying and mitigating risks in development activities Strengthening the team by hiring and retaining top engineering talent
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- Experience managing a low-level systems software team
- Direct experience with kernel or low-level systems software development
- Deep understanding of operating system fundamentals
- Proven track record of successful and timely product delivery
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep understanding of the C programming language
- Knowledge of Swift, Objective-C, or C++
- Experience with UNIX systems
- Knowledge of hardware architecture and assembly language programming
- Cross-platform project development experience
- Strong communication skills, both inward and outward
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $198,300 and $342,800, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
