Manage an operations underwriting area. Provide leadership and technical support through management of people, systems, and processes. Manages the underwriting activities to provide products and services to customers that balance profit and growth. Establish, implements, and monitors underwriting standards for risk selection to achieve divisional and department goals. Maintain primary authority for underwriting decisions. May specialize in one or more products within property/casualty or specialty areas. Products, processes, and systems vary by division or company. You will report to the Underwriting Senior Manager.
In this hybrid role, you will work a minimum of 10 days per month from the office. You should reside within approximately 50 miles of one of the following office locations: Madison, WI 53783; Eden Prairie, MN 55343; St. Joseph, MO 64507; Phoenix, AZ 85034

$86,000.00 - $142,000.00

Compensation may vary based on the job level and your geographic work location. Relocation support is offered for eligible candidates.
Primary Accountabilities
- Create a collaborative, performance-driven work environment by facilitating and fostering trust, transparency, and inclusion. Work with team members to set clear goals, provide feedback, perform performance assessments, and support ongoing development.
- Lead with influence and expertise. Contribute to division or department leadership team. Communicate and support organization mission, vision, values, policies, and practices.
- Manage the underwriting activities of risk analysis, risk selection, and appropriate applications of coverages. Monitors appropriate authority levels for underwriters based on skill level.
- Establishes training programs to build technical expertise.
- Maintain an awareness of industry and delivery system trends affecting risk selection.
- Direct and manage the underwriting of unique, complex policies.
- Ensure compliance of underwriting operations with state and federal regulations and divisional policies and procedures. Research and respond to field, customer, and insurance department complaints.
- Implement policies and practices to promote profit and growth.
Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements
- Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service.
- Demonstrated effective management or leadership experience.
- Demonstrated underwriting experience in area of expertise (specific products or line).
- Solid knowledge and understanding of insurance, underwriting guidelines and risk concepts in area of expertise.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills to review complex cases and/or review lines or books of business.
- Demonstrated experience managing relationships with business partners to obtain results.
