At Alto, Principal Architects / Engineers are both visionary 10x strategic thought leaders and hands-on builders. You venture beyond the traditional and inspire new approaches to solve complex problems. We are seeking an architect and builders who are experienced at building and scaling high volume high throughput systems. You will have the technical judgment and influential skills to facilitate impactful discussions with technical reason. The ideal candidate will be able to operate at the Director, VP, and CTO level as a key technical adviser. They should be able to provide both architectural guidance and detailed technical direction while biasing for delivering customer value.

  • Serve as a technical leader on our most complex customer problems, across multiple systems, across the tech stack. 
  • Decompose complex problems into autonomous independent implementable solutions.
  • Understand and make aware of system dependencies and limitations, while relentlessly trying to reduce them.
  • Possess expert knowledge in performance, scalability, enterprise system architecture, and engineering best practices.
  • Actively mentor and advance the architecture community of practice and continuously raise the bar.
  • Oversee the development of autonomous services exposed via APIs. 
  • Design and guide the implementation of effective service communications through Event Driven Architecture using Cloud Well Architected Frameworks.
  • Leverage cloud technologies to optimize data stores and retrieval.

A Bit About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10 years of hands-on experience in Enterprise Systems architecture, design, and build.
  • Demonstrated success in driving projects from concept to launch.
  • Ability to influence with sound technical judgment.
  • Drive to build Proof of Concepts boldly leveraging new technologies that give outsized returns for our customers.
  • Experience in high quality, highly scalable cloud native software development, modern programming languages, APIs, Event Driven Architectures, AI/ML mechanisms, Just enough UI frameworks, performant data models.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in leading projects within the healthcare industry.
  • Experience breaking down cloud native monolith high volume applications.
  • Experience implementing machine learning or artificial intelligence solutions.

Additional Physical Job Requirements

  • Read English, comprehend, and follow simple oral and written instructions.  The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.  Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.  Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.
  • Frequent repeating motions required to operate a computer that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Sedentary work: Sitting most of the time, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.

Salary and Benefits

Salary Range: $192,000 - $240,000

Commission Eligible: No

Equity Eligible: Yes

Travel: Yes - Required up to 15% of the time  (Engineering on/off-sites, Leadership on/off-sites)

Location Requirement: Employment at Alto is limited to individuals residing in the following states: Washington, California, Nevada, Colorado, Texas, and New York.
