Job Description
Are you passionate about creating intuitive digital experiences that have real impact? Join us as a Software Engineering Manager and lead the next phase of our platform's evolution. Our myAllstate and Allstate Mobile platforms empower customers to manage their policies anytime, anywhere. You'll play a hands-on technical leadership role, driving the development of innovative self-service features and shaping the future of how our customers interact with us.
In this role, you'll lead a skilled team in developing and enhancing self-service capabilities across Allstate Canada's digital platforms. You'll contribute to both optimizing existing products and building new features aligned with our strategic vision. This role blends hands-on development (60%+) with team leadership, while also helping shape IT policies, best practices, and overall technical direction.
Accountabilities
- Provide technical leadership to build real-time, customer-facing self-service capabilities across digital platforms.
- Guide architecture, system design, and technology decisions, ensuring alignment with product vision and business goals.
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers during discovery, scoping, and planning to translate user needs into scalable solutions.
- Lead agile ceremonies (standups, retrospectives, planning) and foster a culture of feedback, empathy, and continuous improvement.
- Champion engineering best practices, including paired programming, test-driven development, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Mentor and coach team members, supporting their growth through constructive feedback and leadership by example.
- Foster a high-performing, inclusive team environment built on trust, innovation, and accountability.
- Set team strategy and clearly communicate objectives to drive focus and alignment.
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience developing and implementing scalable systems
- 2 years in a technical or people leadership role
- Deep expertise in Spring and React frameworks
- 5 years of mobile development experience across iOS and Android
- Strong foundation in object-oriented design, distributed systems, and backend development (including databases, messaging, and caching)
- Proven experience building CI/CD pipelines and applying automated testing and monitoring practices
- Skilled in multiple programming languages with the ability to quickly learn new ones
- Experience leading agile teams and collaborating across cross-functional, geographically dispersed teams
Nice to Have
- Experience building and documenting REST APIs (Swagger, OpenAPI, etc.)
- Background in responsive web and single-page app development for mobile
- Familiarity with test-driven development and frameworks like JUnit, Mockito, Jasmine, or Cucumber
