Java Software Engineer ( Hybrid)

Your role in the team
We are seeking a Java Engineer to help design and develop scalable applications using 12-factor principles. This role focuses on building robust backend services while working across a comprehensive technology stack.
As part of the team, you will apply test-driven development (TDD), continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD), and leverage Allstate-developed frameworks to deliver high-quality solutions.
You will also play a key role in architectural and technical decisions, ensuring the use of appropriate technologies and design patterns that prioritize maintainability and reusability. Collaboration is essential, and you'll work closely with peers in a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and shared technical growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Quickly ramp up enterprise software frameworks and development environments with minimal supervision.
- Evaluate and provide recommendations across all stages of the software delivery lifecycle to ensure high-velocity, high-quality outcomes in a self-directed manner.
- Champion and apply 12-factor app principles, with a focus on availability, scalability, maintainability, and security.
- Lead and manage all phases of the software engineering process-from initial design through continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD).
- Make well-informed technical decisions across complex problem spaces and clearly articulate the rationale behind those decisions.
- Continuously adapt technical strategies to align with evolving business needs and technological trends.
- Embrace and drive positive change, demonstrating resilience and a proactive attitude in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
- Actively participate in iteration planning to ensure shared understanding of user stories and tasks within the team backlog.
- Contribute to daily standups across local and distributed teams to support alignment and collaboration.
Essential Skills
- Must have the legal right to work in the UK
- (3+ years) Java Development experience
- Proven hands-on experience in designing, developing, and maintaining robust Java applications.
- Strong understanding of core Java concepts including object-oriented programming, exception handling, multithreading, collections, and design patterns.
- (3+ years) Continuous Integration and Deployment (CI/CD) must include Solid experience implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, Git, and Maven/Gradle.
