Internal Audit Intern

Job Description
The Audit Intern supports the Internal Audit team in executing risk-based audits across business operations and strategic initiatives. This internship is ideal for students or early-career individuals interested in exploring a future in risk management, internal controls, and business advisory. Interns will work closely with experienced auditors to gain hands-on experience in audit processes, data analysis, and compliance practices.

Key Learning Opportunities & Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing basic audit documentation such as process narratives and risk/control matrices under supervision.
  • Participate in control walkthroughs to observe and understand business processes.
  • Help gather and organize audit evidence using predefined templates and checklists.
  • Conduct simple data testing using Excel tools (e.g., filters, pivot tables) with guidance.
  • Support audit planning activities by updating task boards and tracking assignments.
  • Maintain organized audit workpapers within an audit management system (e.g., TeamMate or Workiva).
  • Attend team meetings including daily stand-ups and retrospectives to learn Agile audit practices.
  • Shadow senior auditors during stakeholder interviews and report presentations.
  • Assist in monitoring remediation efforts for closed findings.
  • Explore basic automation tools (e.g., Power BI, Python scripts) and generative AI prompts for audit documentation.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in internal audit, risk management, or data analytics.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with data tools is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and willingness to learn in a team environment.

Additional Information

  • This internship does not include supervisory responsibilities.
  • Minimal travel may be required (approximately 15%).
  • Internship duration and schedule may vary based on academic calendar and business needs.
