Position Summary:

Alion Science & Technology is seeking an exceptionally talented Solutions Architect (SA) who will provide the technical vision for our enterprise solutions supporting data-intensive initiatives. The team member aims to develop solutions that improve the business operations in line with enterprise goals and strategy. Success is measured through development of internal and enterprise capabilities (Alion Technical Expertise), revenue and fee.

Job Duties:

Alion's SA is responsible for partnering and collaborating with stakeholders, executives, program managers (PMs), business development (BD), business management, Portfolio Managers (PfMs) and implementation team members to define and communicate the technical vision, enable technical execution plans and designs, and provide oversight to implementation teams to ensure their emerging design enables the technical vision. They bridge the gap between technical and business functions, help customers stand up new capabilities, and help Alion enter new markets. The role is split between direct support for existing customer and indirect support to secure new customers and expand work with existing customers.

For existing customers, the SA collaborates with PMs, PfMs, technical team members, and the customer to define understand the customer's issues and develop solutions to address those issues building on existing Alion capabilities. The team member leads the effort to define the problem and develop and coordinate the proposed solution. In some cases, the team member may participate in implementing the solution for the customer. In all cases, the team member develops and maintains a trusted partnership with the stakeholders, executives, program business management, and technical solution implementation team members. The team member assists PMs to develop and execute program plans, including customer interaction plans and technical activities, all focused on meeting the customer's existing needs and on growing business within the program.

For newly identified customers, the team member assists BD personnel, PfMs and PMs on a strategy to pursue new work including developing the concept and/or details of the proposed solution, establishing key milestones and decision gates as the capture advances toward proposal development, and assessing competitor strengths and weaknesses against Alion's to influence win themes for competitive opportunities. The SA aids in developing win strategies to set Alion apart from competitors and position Alion as the favored provider. As applicable, the SA develops and executes capture plans, including customer call plans, customer meetings, and other activities that advance the effort along with strengthening the customer relationships and trust in Alion in collaboration with PMs and BD personnel.

The team member must have the ability to independently educate themselves on relevant technologies and market dynamics, critical thinking skills to either independently or in collaboration with others, assess the problem or customer need and develop a solution within company constraints. The team members must define required resources and maximize the efficiency of available resources. The team member must maximize the value of the developed solution by ensuring alignment of technical solutions with Alion's business needs.

The team member must possess excellent logic, situational awareness, attention to detail, agility to adapt to changing customer needs or evolving program details, a strong sense of ownership, and an urgent drive to make a difference. In order to understand the problem, the team member is responsible for understanding assigned customers and markets organizational structures, business processes, funding, and culture. In order to develop the solution, the team member must be able to recognize and align with the Alion corporate strategy, learn and work within Alion business processes, and learn and build on existing company technical capabilities. The SA must be able to define missing technical capabilities required for the developed solution and identify and secure team members to fill those gaps.

The team member must have the ability to work in a fast-paced, Agile environment, support multiple projects, and create consensus and understanding around the proposed architecture/solutions, communicate well with both technical and non-technical audiences, and translate technical information and concepts into non-technical language.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience. Master's degree in business administration, public administration or relevant discipline preferred. 10 -15 years of relevant experience supporting teams within a complex, fast-paced, data-intensive, milestone-driven environment.

Understanding of system acquisition and RDT&E and/or sustainment. Detailed hands-on experience and understanding of medium to large system/program planning and operations and/or modernization.

Experience with reviewing business context for solutions to business challenges as well as defining the technical vision and requirements for the solution, recommending potential options, (which may include prototype development), selecting the most optimal option, and the technical development of a roadmap for the selected solution.

Experience working closely with other subject matter experts, technical skill leaders and project teams, leveraging the ability to listen, advise, empathize, and explain.

Experience in identifying options that are influenced by constraints of non-functional requirements, business milestones, standards, policies, total cost of ownership and technology maturity.

Fluent in all MS Office applications.

Must have an active Secret clearance or the ability to obtain one.
