Senior Director, GSC Planning COE and Data Management

Alcon are currently hiring for a Sr Director, Global Planning Excellence, who, in partnership with the regional, global SC teams and manufacturing material management will advance the Planning Capabilities across Alcon, accelerating up the maturity curve with an emphasis on areas that will generate the most business and customer value.

This candidate leverages data and analytics to identify improvement opportunities, influence leadership direction and provide valuable recommendations enabling global Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Commercial business processes, while ensuring applicable regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and continually advance the business process ownership, rules, and systems supporting global Demand Planning, Supply Planning, Replenishment Models, and Inventory Management resulting in tangible, measurable operational improvements.
  • Map Global Supply Chain Processes from manufacturing through Channels and Customers, with a focus on how to enable growth, drive efficiencies, and improve Customer Experience. The individual will analyze the current strengths and weaknesses of these processes & designs and develop both short- and medium-term action plans to address.
  • Provide deep understanding of current and future opportunities from new technology & end to end supply chain processes and translate them into mid- to long-term vision that can shape the planning maturity.
  • Develop a center of excellence roadmap to change in line with the created vision, get senior leadership endorsement, build the team in place and track progress.
  • Direct the development, deployment and management of effective Material Master strategies, tools, daily operations, and projects across the company (>250,000 active materials plus Bill of Material objects) affecting Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Commercial operations across multiple system platforms.
  • He/she will clearly identify and drive a significant change in Business results in terms of Service, Inventory and Capital efficiency. One will develop, deploy and embed a longer-term Supply Chain strategy that positions the Supply Chain to deliver the right level of service in a cost competitive manner (benchmark cost, inventory, and customer experience).
  • This person will develop E2E SC Analytics and modeling capabilities with a primary focus on improved Reliability, Cost/Inventory, Demand Shaping/Sensing, and Customer Experience.
  • Drive the customer-centricity in everything we do, and lead the adoption of new customer-centric systems and tools, monitor the adoption and progress, and make strategic recommendations to senior management.
  • Monitor new technologies and trends in E2E supply chain planning, navigate external environment, benchmark and recommend new, innovative approaches.
  • The individual will analyze the current strengths and weaknesses of these processes & designs and develop both short- and medium-term action plans to address. He/she will clearly identify and drive a significant change in Business results in terms of Service, Inventory and Capital efficiency.
  • Drives analytics and reporting activities including data modeling to support operations, flow, performance tracking, root cause analysis, and 'what if' scenario planning.
  • Enable SAP IRIS implementation and operational success at each site by ensuring accurate and timely deliverance of global Material Master cleansing, processes, and tools. Train local resources to manage local data responsibilities competently and consistently, automating tasks where possible.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain stakeholders to understand data visualization and analytical needs and then translate into a clear strategy with plans of action that add business value. Assesses current data structures, environments and data availability to build a vision around future improvement.
  • Direct business process ownership and associated compliance initiatives for Medical Device and Drug Identification (e.g. UDI, EU MDR, Serialization, Track and Trace, etc.) within and across MTO to achieve identified regulatory objectives resulting in sustainable policies, processes, and systems that protect commercial interests. Define and drive opportunities for business value beyond just compliance.
  • Direct Artwork optimization projects across Manufacturing and Supply Chain to design and execute productivity, process improvement, and compliance initiatives including the necessary enabling global technology.
  • Provide oversight and accountability to multiple concurrent global improvement projects to achieve business objectives along with external regulatory and/or customer requirements.
  • Develop annual department budget and manage spend within agreed-upon targets, driving increased efficiency year-over-year.
  • Build team structure and drive development of talent throughout the global organization. Empower associates with correct and adequate staffing, blending internal/external and onshore/offshore resources as required.
  • Developing COE service capability - Identifying capability gaps, developing training programs, establishing best practices and standards, and building a culture of continuous improvement within the CoE team.
  • Elevate team capabilities, skills and knowledge to a high performance, outcomes-focused organization.
  • Direct and manage industry activities to achieve Alcon's public policy goals for areas of accountability. Attend external industry conferences and advisory boards to stay current on evolving global supply chain operations and best practices.
Experience Required:

  • Minimum 15 years of business and/or IT management experience in Manufacturing and Supply Chain with at least 7 years involving global, cross-functional responsibility.
  • Minimum 10 combined years in Supply Chain Planning and Master Data Governance strategy and operations within a large multi-national enterprise, driving improved performance across the organization
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and organization skills are required. Ability to lead and influence globally with or without direct reporting responsibility is required.
  • Experience in a regulated industry (pharmaceutical, medical device) preferred.
  • Demonstrated successful interaction with cross-functional teams and working across necessary levels of management.
  • Proficiency in healthcare business processes such as Quality and Compliance requirements of Health Authorities, new product introduction, life-cycle processes and preparation of business cases
  • Demonstrated experience establishing operating policies and procedures that affect departments and subordinate sections and work units, and developing highly-complex and geographically dispersed budgets, schedules, and performance standards.
