The Community You Will Join:
Airbnb’s Public Policy campaign team exists to further the interests of our community of hosts and guests with politicians, regulators, opinion leaders and others who shape the political and regulatory context for our business, helping them to understand the significant social and economic contributions of our platform. Across the North America (“NAMER”) region, US and Canada specifically, we are engaged in hundreds of local conversations and negotiations with governments big and small. We engage governments at local, state, provincial and national levels directly and also use innovative advocacy and partnership strategies that actively involve our community and stakeholders in making the case for fair, progressive home sharing rules.
The Difference You Will Make:
The main role of the Public Policy Associate, Long Tail Geos is to ensure the conception and execution of successful policy campaigns in their assigned region. In coordination with the Long Tail Policy Lead, the Public Policy Associate will develop and execute integrated government relations, communications, stakeholder engagement and mobilization plans and projects to achieve key policy objectives.
As a Public Policy Associate, you must be meticulously organized, detail- and solutions-oriented. You are also able to see the big picture and prioritize projects strategically when needed, while understanding how to synthesize legislation, information and data that should be escalated to leadership. You should have a strong independent work ethic and excellent communication skills, and an ability to take big ideas and translate them into policy with a positive and creative outlook. The ability to develop and maintain good and strong relationships with key internal stakeholders in the region and globally within Airbnb will be highly valued.
The Long Tail team sits within the NAMER Policy Team and is responsible for developing scaled government relations solutions targeted to long tail markets, generally small to medium sized cities, towns and counties, that are growing at a rapid pace. The Policy Associate will manage public policy work in long tail markets and develop and execute strategies in this fast growing part of the business.
A Typical Day:
- Manage all aspects of local government relations within an assigned area. Monitor all STR related legislation and execute strategies based on defined long tail playbooks.
- Maintain relationships with an extensive network of contacts in local and regional legislative offices, as well as with allied groups and coalition partners.
- Work closely with cross functional partners to make sure that policy plans fit with business priorities and keep regional policy teams informed about STR issues at the local level. This includes coordination with the internal tax team on local jurisdictional tax issues and products, communications and legal teams.
- Develop and execute scaled engagement campaigns with local government officials and regulators.
- Develop and execute voluntary informational host compliance campaigns.
- Attend and represent the Airbnb policy team at conferences and events attended by local lawmakers and manage partnership opportunities with external stakeholders and community groups.
- Help develop and maintain a content library and communication materials for elected officials, regulators and other community stakeholders and create and manage an automated, proactive communication system.
- Develop and execute scaled host grassroots advocacy campaign efforts including leading meetings with hosts, drafting and sending call to action emails and landing pages using a wide range of tools.
- Conduct and develop content for webinars with elected officials for product briefings and best practices.
- Ensure progress is reported accurately and regularly, and roadblocks flagged in a timely fashion.

Your Expertise:
- At least 4 years of experience working in politics, policy and/or government relations.
- Strong conceptual and brainstorming skills, leading and participating whenever needed.
- Solutions oriented in the face of complex, multi-faceted problems.
- Experience working with local governments is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously and navigate complex matrix organization with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience collaborating closely with stakeholders of widely varying disciplines and backgrounds, including technical and political teams. Ability to translate market research, data, and strategy to creative solutions.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills—you can effectively communicate both in written form and verbally and passionately defend decisions both internally and to lawmakers.
- Strong work ethic, and exhibits professionalism, courtesy and strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to exercise judgment and maintain confidentiality.
- Empathy for our community and internal/external audiences.
- Passion for home-sharing and the mission of the company.
- Willingness to travel regularly within the assigned region

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager.
