Primary Purpose:
The Data Engineer I participates in the expansion and optimization our data and data pipeline architecture, as well as optimizing data flow and collection for cross functional teams. They will assist our data initiatives and will ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects. They engage through the entire lifecycle of a project from data mapping, data pipelines, data modeling, and finally data consumption. They must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems, and products. They will learn to optimize our company's data architecture to support our next generation of products and data initiatives. They develop solutions to a variety of problems of limited scope and complexity, follow established procedures on routine work and works under the direction of solutions manager.
This entry-level role supports the setup, optimization, and maintenance of the enterprise data platform, with a focus on Databricks, MongoDB, and Azure infrastructure. With a basic understanding of DevOps, they assist in building automated, observable, and resilient data workflows. Working closely with cross-functional teams, they help ensure smooth data movement and platform reliability. Under the guidance of the Solutions Manager, the engineer contributes across the data lifecycle-from platform setup to performance tuning-by following established procedures and solving problems of limited scope. They continuously learn and improve platform capabilities to support future data initiatives.

Our flexible/ hybrid work schedule includes 3 in-person days at one of our core locations and 2 remote days. Our core office locations include Salisbury, NC, Quincy, MA and Carlisle, PA.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Contributes to solving simple application errors, designs and resolves application problems, following up promptly with all appropriate customers and IT personnel.
- Reviews QA test plans and supports QA team during test execution.
- Participates in developing data transformation and data pipelines.
- Ensures change control and change management procedures are followed within the program/project as they relate to requirements.
- Contributes to developing BI datasets, reports, and dashboards to support decision-making within business and IT.
- Able to interpret requirement documents, assist in preparing the functional design documents as a part of data development life cycle.
- Documents all phases of work including gathering requirements, joining relationship diagrams, creating database diagrams, report layouts and other program technical specifications using current specified design standards for new or revised solutions.
- Relates information from various sources to draw logical conclusions.
- Conducts unit testing on ELT and report development.
- Conducts data lineage and impact analysis as a part of the change management process.
- Conducts limited data analysis (SQL, Excel, Data Discovery, etc.) on legacy systems and new data sources.
- Assists in documenting reporting requirements through engagement with business process SMEs.
- Contributes in source to target data mappings for data pipelines and integration activities.
- Ensure operational stability of a 24/7/365 grocery retail environment by providing technical support, system monitoring, and issue resolution which may be required during off-hours, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Assist in configuring and managing Databricks workspaces, clusters, and jobs on Azure, focusing on performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
- Support secure data access and governance by helping implement and maintain Unity Catalog and role-based access controls.
- Contribute to platform automation and infrastructure provisioning using Terraform, while learning to apply basic DevOps and CI/CD practices.
- Help monitor platform performance, troubleshoot issues, and support MongoDB optimization, observability, and compliance efforts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Technical field; equivalent trainings/certifications/experience equivalency will be considered
- Training, Co-Op, Internship or equivalent direct working experience in relevant job or field of technology
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters Degree in relevant field of study preferred, Additional trainings or certifications in relevant field of study preferred - Databricks Certified, Azure Certifications preferred
- 1 or more years of on the job experience in relevant technology role.
- Experience in Agile teams and or Product/Platform based operating model.

Salary Range: $79,280 | $99,100 | $118,920

This position is eligible for an incentive bonus based on company performance as provided by the plan terms and governing documents.
