Ordering a pizza? Buying a pair of trainers? Watching a movie? Hailing a ride? Chances are Adyen is handling your payment. Adyen’s Digital Secure Payments team is responsible for an important part of the payments engine of the Adyen platform.
We ensure digital experiences can be seamlessly secured from the card selection, passing through a smooth authentication and tokenization process, to ultimately deliver a higher conversion for our merchants.
We strive to optimize card payment performance in existing markets and add new payment features for various use cases. Through our direct connections into the global card networks of Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners, JCB, and China UnionPay, we can provide the highest quality of payment processing while also leading the market in terms of product innovation.
We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Team Lead to lead a talented group of engineers working on the heart of Adyen’s Tokenization offering. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to lead critical initiatives, work closely with internal teams and product managers, ultimately making an impact on how merchants deliver secure and seamless payment experiences.
What you’ll do
- Work cross-functionally with design, product, data engineers, engineers and other key stakeholders.
- Hands-on Technical Leadership: Actively contribute to code, code reviews, architecture decisions, etc. Collaborate closely with engineers to design and develop scalable solutions, while also mentoring and providing technical guidance to the team.
- Have a multiplier effect by motivating team members and providing coaching in areas including but not limited to: engineering best practices, scalable architecture design, product roadmap discussions.
- Maintain an inclusive team culture focused on autonomy, ownership, collaboration, communication, and impact.
- Collaborate with different teams to design and implement new services with reliability/infra/data/dev in mind.
- Set clear individual and team goals that align with our strategic engineering ambitions in close collaboration with the product manager.
- Create an inspiring and collaborative team environment with an open communication/feedback culture.
- Recruit new team members who align with the Adyen culture and required skills.
- Maintain an inclusive team culture focused on autonomy, ownership, collaboration, communication, and impact.
Who you are
- An energetic self-starter experienced in creating alignment between multiple teams.
- You have experience with Core Java, Distributed systems, Web services, REST APIs and SQL/PostgreSQL.
- You are able to define, implement and monitor performance KPIs to quickly identify opportunities for improvement in existing systems.
- Experienced in coaching and mentoring engineering talent.
- Experienced in leading technical projects in a fast paced environment.
- Experienced with collaborating with senior leadership to set strategic direction including product roadmaps.
- An excellent communicator and team player with strong management skills and technical aptitude.
- Someone who can clearly communicate about technical concepts to non-engineers.

Minimum Qualifications:
- 2+ years experience in managing engineering teams within a Java environment
- 7+ years of experience in software development industry in a fast paced tech environment
- Full professional proficiency in English

Please note that this role is a full-time position in Amsterdam. It will require a relocation in case you live outside of the Netherlands.
