This position plays a critical role in month-end close and financial reporting. Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Executes month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation and review of journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial statements.
  • Ensures timely and accurate preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reporting, as well as NCUA call reporting, providing insights and recommendations to management.
  • Assists management in the performance of the Credit Union's allowance for credit losses measurement process, including data gathering, model execution, results analysis, and preparation of related journal entries in compliance with accounting standards.
  • Identifies and implements best practices to streamline workflows and enhance reporting accuracy and timeliness.
  • Partners with internal departments and external auditors to aid in audits, examinations, and financial reviews.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert and resource for Staff Accountants and other team members; provide training and guidance.
  • Participates in departmental and organizational projects and initiatives by anticipating and planning impacts to accounting processes and procedures and coordinates the implementation of appropriate changes.
  • Ensures appropriate capitalization of fixed assets and recognition of depreciation according to the Credit Union's Fixed Asset Capitalization Policy.
  • Coordinates the timely preparation and filing of various tax reports, including Forms 990, 990-T, 945, 720, property tax forms, and state tax filings.
  • Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Additionally, all employees must follow policies and procedures to minimize risk by exercising judgment, raising questions to management, and adhering to policy guidelines.

Requirements

Experience

Five years to eight years of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience.

Education/Certifications/Licenses

A college degree.

Interpersonal Skills

A significant level of trust, credibility and diplomacy is required. In-depth dialogue, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors can be of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature. Communications may involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance. Typically includes subject matter experts as well as first level to middle managers.

Other Skills

Sound analytical skills to interpret policies and procedures related to state and federal regulations and to research member account activities and recommend actions to resolve problems. Knowledge of related state and federal credit union regulations, accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of American, and best practices associated with safe and sound operations. Solid reasoning, mathematical, and language abilities. Advanced knowledge and experience using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook. Ability to work on standard personal computers (including peripheral equipment), typing 40-50 words per minute, view a computer terminal for varying periods, and learn and retain the proper use of office equipment. Must be able to work with various PC software. Self-motivated in a fast-paced environment with the ability to work accurately, independently, and meet deadlines. Sound communication skills with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.

Physical Requirements

Is able to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.

Working Conditions

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.

Mental and/or Emotional Requirements

Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
