The Business Analyst is accountable for creating reports and dashboards, performing analyses, and automating workflows to manage data-driven decision-making and improve efficiencies for the lending and risk management departments. This role requires extensive experience working with large databases, ideally within the financial services industry, to develop reports and data extracts that align with strategic goals. The Business Analyst will collaborate with lending and risk departments to deliver insights and actionable recommendations while effectively managing priorities. Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Works with Credit Union management to assess data needs. Consults with departmental units to detect how data analysis may help provide business solutions.
- Stays in tune with industry and technology trends to maintain best in class service to our members and internal stakeholders.
- Ensures the stability and reliability of data access and data quality across the area of expertise. Serves as a steward for data quality and best practices.
- Participates in data and BI projects, providing expertise to the credit union in scoping efforts and partnering with vendors on technical matters.
- Partners with other departments to identify requirements for systems integrations with internal and external systems.
- Identifies, analyzes, and interprets trends or patterns in complex data sets and report findings and make recommendations to leadership.
- Performs quantitative and qualitative analyses utilizing tools related to core analytics, statistical modeling, and regression analysis to develop business and portfolio insights. Conducts research, prepare reports, and analyze credit performance on risk trends, portfolio reviews, economic forecast, etc.
- Develops enterprise reporting solutions from multiple structured and unstructured data sources including SQL Server, flat files, and external data sources to fulfill reporting requests with an analytical approach. Validates data against existing benchmarks to ensure data accuracy.
- Tackles complex business problems by converting raw data into meaningful and actionable business insights. Collaborates directly with peers and leaders to transform ideas into actions.
- Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Additionally, all employees must follow policies and procedures to minimize risk by exercising judgment, raising questions to management, and adhering to policy guidelines.
Requirements
Experience
- Two to four years of exposure, knowledge, and reporting of lending and risk management preferred.
- SQL experience creating reports and dashboards with the ability to combine unstructured and structured data.
- Proficiency writing complex SQL queries with a focus on quality and reliability.
- Experience using a business intelligence tool such as PowerBI or Tableau to pull in data, develop visualizations and conduct user acceptance testing with the internal stakeholders.
- Ability to effectively communicate with non-technical lending and risk management subject matter experts in the development and design of data-based decisions.
- Comfort level working with team members across the organization including the C-Suite.
Education/Certifications/Licenses
A college degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field.
Interpersonal Skills
A significant level of trust, credibility and diplomacy is required. In-depth dialogue, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors can be of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature. Communications may involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance. Typically includes subject matter experts as well as first level to middle managers.
Physical Requirements
Is able to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
Working Conditions
Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled private office with minimal noise.
Mental and/or Emotional Requirements
Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
