Property Accountant

A midtown property management company is looking for a Senior Property Accountant to be primarily responsible for all aspects of property accounting for assigned properties. The right candidate will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, strict attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Property accounting experience with class-A office properties in excess of 1 million SF preferred
  • Review and analyze general ledgers for respective properties, process journal entries, calculate monthly accruals and update supporting balance sheet account schedules
  • Accurately complete accounting and financial responsibilities for assigned properties, including but not limited to, forecasting, variance analysis and compliance of the financial essentials of the tenant leases
  • Review abstracted leases and experience in reading leases and pulling the information and conditions from the lease
  • Calculate real estate tax and operating expense escalations
  • Prepare, reconcile and analyze general ledger accounts for all financial packages for all assigned properties including journal entries for accruals, reclassifications, adjustments and financial statements
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and year-end financial reports including variance reports
  • Develop and assist Property Managers in your assigned properties with their annual operating budgets
  • Assist in the resolution of tenant billing inquiries with accounts receivable and legal departments
  • Assist with lender reporting compliance
  • Ensure timely processing of debt service payments
  • Assist with preparation of financial/workpaper support for external auditors
  • Perform special assignments and other related tasks as requested

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is required
  • 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Commercial Real Estate industry experience is required
  • Experience with MRI property management software a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including advanced skills in Excel
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to handle a high volume of responsibilities
  • Attention to detail and proactive approach to identifying and independently resolving issues
  • Experience working independently as well as collaboratively; effectively managing priorities while meeting hard deadlines
