Grants Accountant

Seeking a relatively experienced Grants Accountant to take on the responsibility for all grant and contract functions from budgeting, billing, revenue calculation, collections, reporting, site visits, and close-out for a prominent Educational organization in the DC Metro Area. The Grants Accountant will also assist in other general accounting activities to include the preparation of the annual operating budget, monthly general ledger reconciliations, timesheets review, indirect cost proposal submission, excluded party vendor checks, and other projects and accounting duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in monitoring staff time allocations to billable and unbillable projects and aids in the review of staff timesheets
  • Assists in the preparation and maintenance of the grants/contracts accounts receivable aging schedule and collection efforts
  • Prepares summary entries to the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers, reconciles with source documents/transactions to ensure accuracy and resolves discrepancies.
  • Ensures clear concise audit trails to support each transaction, salary adjustments, and reconciliation of accounts
  • Manages grant closeout process, including analyzing and forecasting of data, reporting of data and preparing close out reports in a timely manner
  • Prepares and submits monthly spending analyses to program managers; responds to inquiries from internal and external customers. Maintains direct communications with internal customers including program financial management staff regarding various receipts and expenses for billing and financial reporting purposes.
  • Conducts regular meetings with program managers to discuss their spending analyses and suggest budget modifications, as needed
  • Reconciles billed and unbilled costs to grant and contract revenues
  • Assists in the timely collection of payments on outstanding grant and contract invoices
  • Responsible for communicating items relating to grant and contract financial management and compliance to program managers and funders
  • Assists in the timely collection of payments on outstanding grant and contract invoices
  • Ensures appropriate supporting documents for all grants and contracts are maintained in an organized and auditable manner, electronically and in paper form, as needed
  • Assists the Grants Manager and Senior Accountant/Grants in preparing the Grants and Contracts revenue and operating budget, as requested

Qualifications:

  • 1-5 years' experience
  • Knowledge of federal regulations related to sponsored programs at local, state, and federal levels
  • Balance and income sheet reconciliation experience
  • Must be detail and deadline oriented
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and work collaboratively with other various areas within the organization
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills; diplomacy with respect to funders is essential
  • Advanced Excel (i.e., pivot tables) skills
  • Must have knowledge of OMB's A-110, A-122, and A-133
