The Machinist sets up and operates a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. The Machinist is responsible for ensuring product is loaded and unloaded correctly per standard operating procedures.

Shift

Monday - Thursday 3:00pm-1:30am, Brookwood Milling Dept.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Set-up in process inspection to ensure agreement with final inspection methods.
  • Mentor and train lower level operators in duties and responsibilities.
  • Study blueprints, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements, interprets GD & T callouts.
  • Perform all set-ups within set-up standard items without supervision.
  • Understand basic G-Code commands and is capable of making minor G-Code modifications at machine center.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications.
  • Operates micrometers, dial and digital calipers, veneer and thread gauges, go/no-go pins and other measuring tools and equipment.
  • Visually inspects surfaces for flaws and smoothness and makes adjustments accordingly.
  • Attends Quality Training and applies Quality Standards accordingly.
  • Observes safety and security procedures; Reports potentially unsafe conditions; Uses equipment and materials properly.
  • Empties chip bins.
  • Sweeps and cleans work area and equipment.
  • Reports consistently to work and is on time.
  • Efficiently troubleshoot set-up and programming issues on all machines within assigned cell.
  • Participate on NPI projects to incorporate Cell processes.
Qualifications
  • Generally requires 6-8 years of Machining and Set-up experience.
  • Successful completion of Tooling U and/or enrolled in Machining Classes.(Internal)
  • Mastery of Level 1 and 2 competencies on Acumed Machinist Career Ladder and Qualifications.
  • Ability to Set-up, troubleshoot and operate a variety of machine tools to close tolerances.
  • Perform difficult set-ups efficiently, read drawings including GD&T, use precision measuring instruments and perform shop math calculations.
  • Minimum of 2 years of progressively complex machining assignments.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Basic math skills.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and speak English sufficiently to read, understand and complete all documentation.
  • Demonstrated set-up competency on Cell-specific Machine Tools, with acceptable results.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills and basic programming understanding
