This Free Tool Will Transform Your Ugly-Duckling Resume Into a Swan

Everyone knows that Microsoft Word is useful for certain tasks. Writing reports, crafting essays, editing articles, to name a few. But, when it comes to formatting resumes, there’s a much better way to do it—a tool that don’t require you to manually add spacer lines, change heading fonts, and—and most frustratingly—align your dates and locations so that everything looks consistent.

Enter ineedaresu.me (pronounced “I need a resume”)—a tool that creates beautiful, free resumes in under 10 minutes. I, like you, doubted the website’s statement describing this product as “faster and easier than Word.” But, after giving it a try and getting back a more appealing version of my resume in only eight minutes, I can say that ineedaresu.me really is simple and quick to use.

Besides its convenience, the tool’s minimalistic and sophisticated template will make your resume easy to skim for recruiters—something they’ll greatly appreciate after having read a bunch written in eight point font.

Here is a look at a portion of the finished product.

(Note: We love the look here, but know that The Muse only recommends using a summary section for specific reasons.)

To build something that looks like this, simply go to the website and select “create your own.” You’ll see the window pictured below. Go ahead and fill out only the sections that make sense for you.

To make this process faster, I suggest opening your current resume and copying and pasting the information directly into the boxes. Just note that bullet points have to be replaced with asterisks in order to appear as bullet points in the final product.

Once you’ve filled out the information, ineedaresu.me will lay everything out in a visually pleasing way and ask you for preferences on font, text alignment, and line spacing. Even though only one template exists now, there are more than enough customizable options to make your resume unique.

If you’re like me and want a resume makeover ASAP but don’t want to spend money or time on fancy templates—then give this tool a try.
