9 Reasons Why Office Dogs Make the Best Employees

Here at The Muse, we're a team full of dog lovers—but we've never been lucky enough to have an office dog of our own. Luckily, while taking a peek into awesome companies across the country, we've had the pleasure of meeting some of the coolest four-legged employees out there.

So, in honor of National Dog Day, we're reminding everyone why it's awesome to have an office dog—with the help of our favorite pups, of course.

1. They'll Be There to Greet You Every Morning

Sure, chatting with your co-workers when you arrive in the morning is nice. But there's nothing like seeing a face like this to start your day off right. Gracie from AIRSIS is the perfect example—she's always ready to greet her fellow employees with a smile.

2. They'll Help You Get Your Work Done

Nothing is better than having somebody to bounce ideas off of or help you plow through your work. At startup Bread, Chip—the resident "Chief Morale Officer"—is always happy to lend a helping hand to his fellow employees.

3. You Don't Even Have to Pay Them

Office pups are perfect employees. They'll show up every day with a smile, ready to do their job around the office, and they'll never ask for anything in return. (Although rumor has it that Zoosk's Teemo gets paid under the table in peanut butter.)

4. They'll Represent Your Company With Pride

Pups often become the unofficial mascot of companies, but it's a role they're perfectly happy to take on. Dixon from GlobalGiving is no exception—he dons his custom shirt every chance he gets, proudly spreading the company's message to everyone who comes to pet him.

5. They'll Remind You That Naptime is an Important Activity

Office pups know that naptime is a great way to re-charge in the middle of the day—and they aren't afraid to take the shut-eye they need. Bogey from Harmless Harvest can often be found cozying up in his dog bed (or on the floor).

6. They'll Keep Your Seat Warm

Tired of co-workers sneaking off with your favorite chair? Office guard dogs will make sure to keep it safe while you're off in meetings—or at least keep it warm. Hank from AOL show us how it's done.

7. They'll Encourage Office Bonding

Nothing brings people together like playing with a cute pup. Otis regularly unifies the Kiva employees by organizing team recess!

8. They'll Show You How to Dress Sharp

Many of the office dogs we've met are pretty stylish. Bandit from Groupon and Scout from DOOR3 are always ready to give you some pointers on appropriate work wear.

9. They'll Make Sure You Get Up and Move Around

With a dog around, you'll never again sit at your desk for countless hours without moving a muscle. Dewey from Uber is always ready to remind her fellow employees that it's time to go for a walk (or get up and dance).
