At Apple, great ideas quickly become phenomenal products, services, and customer experiences. Join us in building the future of energy! One way we are making the world better is our Apple 2030 initiative - a commitment to become carbon neutral across our entire business, manufacturing supply chain, and product life cycle by 2030, including the electricity used to power Apple devices. We build robust, highly scalable services that support this mission, working across distributed systems, security, and privacy with a focus on reliability and disruptive, meaningful impact.

Description

In this role, you will own the strategy, roadmap, and architectural direction for a server platform engineering team of 11 engineers, delivering highly scalable, mission-critical distributed systems in support of Apple's sustainability goals. You will directly lead this team, staying technically credible in the underlying code and architecture while driving hiring, growth, and a culture of technical excellence and accountability. You will be cultivating your team's fluency with agentic and generative AI tooling - driving adoption to accelerate delivery velocity and sustain a competitive edge.","responsibilities":"Lead hiring, onboarding, coaching, and performance management for the team, to build and retain a world-class engineering team

Define and communicate team strategy, technical roadmap, and durable architecture decisions aligned to Apple's energy and sustainability mission

Maintain technical credibility across your team's systems - engage deeply in architecture reviews and critical technical decisions, setting the technical bar without requiring day-to-day involvement in code review

Champion a platform mindset, building shared services and infrastructure that other Apple teams adopt and rely on

Drive your team's adoption and sustained fluency with agentic and generative AI tooling to accelerate engineering velocity

Actively understand and shape how engineers across the organization work with AI, serving as a primary driver of AI-enabled workflows across your team and the broader engineering organization

Partner cross-functionally with product, security, privacy, and compliance stakeholders to deliver solutions that meet the highest standards

Operate and continuously improve mission-critical production distributed systems, ensuring reliability, scalability, and security

Foster a team culture grounded in technical excellence, psychological safety, continuous improvement, and shared accountability

Preferred Qualifications

Hands-on experience with agentic AI frameworks, generative AI tooling, or LLM-integrated developer workflows in a production or near-production context

Familiarity with energy, sustainability, or carbon accounting domains - including clean energy procurement, emissions tracking, or supply chain transparency systems

Skilled in driving organizational AI fluency - rolling out AI-assisted development practices, evaluating tooling, and sustaining adoption over time

Experience operating infrastructure in regulated environments with strict data privacy and compliance requirements

Background in building internal developer platforms or shared services adopted broadly across a large engineering organization

Demonstrated ability to translate ambiguous, high-stakes business goals into concrete technical strategy and executable roadmaps

Minimum Qualifications

Proven track record of building, leading, and growing high-performing software engineering teams in control of their production environment

10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in direct people management responsibility, with experience leading a team of comparable size (10+ engineers) and accountability for team-wide technical and people outcomes

Deep expertise in designing and operating mission-critical, highly scalable distributed systems at production scale

Demonstrated ability to remain technically credible across your team's systems - engaging in architecture reviews and technical decisions at a level of depth that earns the trust of senior engineers, without requiring hands-on code review

Experience with hiring pipelines, performance management, career development frameworks, and building inclusive team culture

Strong background in security, compliance, and governance practices relevant to enterprise-scale platform services

Track record of influencing cross-functional partners and driving alignment across engineering, product, and operations organizations

Proficiency with platform-oriented engineering - designing services and infrastructure that other teams adopt as foundational building blocks

BS Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
