BuyAbility℠ is Zillow Home Loans' flagship affordability engine, spotlighted in the 2025 Shareholder Letter after helping over 1.5 million shoppers in its first year. Unlike static calculators, BuyAbility delivers personalized, real-time budgets-a comfortable target and a stretch max-updated daily as mortgage rates and market conditions shift.
These budgets appear throughout the Zillow app (search, filters, listing pages), immediately showing whether a home is "within BuyAbility" and what steps a shopper can take to close the gap. By providing personalized insights and a seamless in-app experience, BuyAbility guides users from initial interest to mortgage-ready, increasing the likelihood they will choose ZHL for their financing needs.

Looking ahead, we're rolling out:
- Soft credit pulls (Experian) for sharper affordability estimates.
- Financial-viability questions that help predict readiness to transact.
- An in-app pre-approval step that turns a budget into verified buying power.
- Push notification campaigns that re-engage shoppers when market shifts (e.g., interest rate drops, credit changes) improve their buying power-or when new homes within budget hit the market.
- Design research shows that renters and first-time buyers, particularly from underrepresented communities, benefit from low-friction, transparent guidance. BuyAbility is being built to nurture these shoppers until they're mortgage-ready-and then deliver just-in-time human support to help them close with confidence.
About the role
We're hiring a Senior Mobile Engineering Manager to lead a team of iOS and Android engineers that power BuyAbility in the Zillow app. You'll partner closely with product, design, marketing, data science, and back-end engineers to deliver seamless affordability and engagement features that carry customers from budgeting to closing.
You'll play a critical role in scaling the team, modernizing our mobile tech stack, and shaping cross-platform experiences that make home buying more accessible and transparent.
This role has been categorized as a teleworker position. Teleworkers do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any part of Mexico, but preferably in Mexico City, as we would encourage attendance for occasional in-office events.
In addition to a competitive base salary and benefits, this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location.

Product & Execution
- Own the mobile roadmap and execution for iOS and Android, partnering across disciplines to deliver user-centered features.
- Maximize team effectiveness in delivering value-set clear goals, drive iterative delivery. Improve coordination with back-end partners and reduce cross-team dependencies where possible to unlock faster, more autonomous execution.
- Launch secure, seamless login with Auth0, passkeys, and biometric MFA.
- Stand up real-time analytics using a unified SDK for mobile + back-end instrumentation and fast experimentation.
- Roll out personalized push notifications that nudge users when buying power improves due to credit or interest rate changes, or when new listings fall within their affordability range.
Team Leadership & Growth
- Hire, mentor, and scale a growing team of mobile engineers.
- Set clear career paths and build a high-trust, inclusive culture that promotes learning and autonomy.
- Collaborate with other mobile teams in Zillow Home Loans to align roadmaps and share best practices.
Architecture & Engineering Excellence
- Champion high standards for code quality, automated testing, performance, and on-call resilience.
- Drive adoption of contract testing and agentic end-to-end tests to ensure reliable service integration and minimize regressions.
- Evolve shared, server-driven native components for scalable UI and logic reuse across the Zillow app.
- Maintain harmony across mobile, web, and APIs using modern GraphQL patterns.
