Development Engineer Manager

Yesterday Kennesaw, GA

Yamaha has an excellent opportunity for a Development Engineer Manager to join our Marine team in Kennesaw, GA. In this role you will oversee the full product development lifecycle across multiple projects or functional areas, with an emphasis on Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), autonomous marine technologies, and the development and launch of new marine products. You will lead cross-functional teams developing and integrating functions such as perception, sensor integration and fusion, path planning, collision avoidance, situational awareness, and autonomous or assisted vessel operation. You will ensure alignment across engineering, product planning, validation, legal/IP, and supplier teams to achieve business objectives while managing technical, safety, schedule, and integration risks. This role expands beyond traditional engineering management scope to lead cross-functional development activities and broader program execution, particularly in support of new product introduction initiatives. It serves as a progression opportunity for experienced Engineering Managers, increasing exposure to full lifecycle ownership, cross-functional leadership, and resource planning within a more complex and integrated development environment.

What you'll be doing:

  • Own the end-to-end development lifecycle for ADAS, autonomous marine systems, and related new-product programs across multiple projects or functional areas.
  • Lead coordination across software, controls, electrical, mechanical, systems engineering, product planning, validation, legal/IP, suppliers, and external technology partners.
  • Establish technical and program priorities and allocate resources across projects based on business value, technical dependencies, safety, and delivery risk.
  • Drive alignment across functions where direct authority may not exist, including agreement on system requirements, interfaces, architecture, verification, and release readiness.
  • Provide leadership and direction to project leads and engineering teams developing perception, sensor fusion, path planning, collision avoidance, situational awareness, and autonomous or assisted-operation functions.
  • Monitor project performance and manage technical, functional-safety, cybersecurity, supplier, intellectual-property, schedule, and integration risks across multiple workstreams.
  • Establish and improve systems-engineering, simulation, prototyping, hardware-software integration, on-water validation, issue-management, and design-review processes.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, resource planning, supplier selection, and make-or-buy decisions for advanced technology programs.
  • Contribute to broader development strategy and technology-roadmap discussions for intelligent, connected, assisted, and autonomous marine products.

What you need to be successful:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related technical field required.
  • 5-10 years of engineering or product-development experience, including complex software-enabled or electromechanical systems.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing engineering teams, technical programs, or cross-functional product-development activities.
  • Experience leading requirements definition, system architecture, integration, verification, validation, and product launch activities.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership capability, including experience working with suppliers and external development partners.
  • Strategic thinking with an operational execution focus and the ability to communicate technical and business tradeoffs to senior leadership.

Nice to Have Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field.
  • Experience developing or launching ADAS, autonomous vehicles or vessels, robotics, intelligent transportation, or safety-related embedded systems.
  • Knowledge of perception technologies such as camera, radar, lidar, ultrasonic sensors, GNSS, inertial sensors, computer vision, object detection, tracking, localization, and sensor fusion.
  • Knowledge of autonomous-system functions such as path planning, motion planning, collision avoidance, guidance, navigation, control, and operator handover.
  • Experience with simulation, model-based development, software-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop, rapid prototyping, and field or on-water testing.
  • Knowledge of embedded software, real-time systems, CAN, J1939, NMEA 2000, Ethernet, network architecture, hardware-software integration, and cybersecurity.
  • Experience managing technology suppliers, external engineering partners, contracts, statements of work, intellectual-property considerations, and make-or-buy decisions.
  • Knowledge of marine products and how they are used, including fishing boats, sport boats, personal watercraft, and outboard engine.
  • Knowledge of the marine industry and business ecosystem.
