JavaScript Engineer (Akamai Edge / L7 Platform Focus)

Overview

We are looking for a talented JavaScript Engineer with a strong understanding of modern JavaScript and web request/response flows, who is interested in developing and evolving our Akamai Edge Worker foundation. You don't need to be an Akamai expert from day one-but you should be comfortable working close to the network layer, learning quickly, and owning part of a critical edge-security and optimisation platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain Akamai Edge Workers that support core customer journeys, API security, and platform optimisation.
• Work closely with platform, security, and API teams to define and implement Layer-7 logic, including routing, request inspection, headers, and traffic shaping.
• Contribute to establishing a robust Edge Worker foundation, including coding standards, patterns, reusable modules, and governance.
• Support tuning, testing, and deployment of edge logic during security events, configuration changes, or traffic routing and manipulation activities.
• Collaborate with Third party and internal teams during feature rollouts, troubleshooting, and major incidents.
• Participate in architectural discussions around edge-to-origin flows, bot protection, caching, and performance optimisation.
• Provide documentation, code reviews, and guidance to other engineers adopting edge technologies.

Required Skills

• Strong proficiency in JavaScript / TypeScript (Node-style runtime experience useful).
• Understanding of HTTP fundamentals: methods, headers, caching, content types, redirects, CORS, etc.
• Awareness of API design and RESTful patterns.
• Experience working with distributed systems, cloud, or web platform technologies.
• Ability to reason about request/response flows and debug at the network layer.
• Nice-to-Have (or Willingness to Learn)
• Experience with Akamai, Cloudflare Workers, AWS Lambda Edge, or similar serverless edge platforms.
• Exposure to WAF, Bot Protection, CDN behaviour, or traffic-management rules.
• Understanding of Layer-7 security concepts (rate limits, header validation, JWT handling, etc.).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows.
• Experience with high-traffic systems or API-driven architectures.
