Application Development Principal Engineer Waters Connect
Overview
We are building a small research-focused engineering team to explore new technologies and help shape the future direction of our software platform. As a Application Development Principal Engineer, you will work across existing applications, proof-of-concept development and integration work, with opportunities to explore areas such as AI and agentic integrations. This role includes front-end and back-end engineering. Angular will be used in the role, but we are open to candidates whose front-end experience comes from other modern frameworks. The role spans both on-premise and cloud-connected software, so cloud experience is also expected.

- Develop and maintain applications using C# and .NET across back-end services and user-facing software.
- Contribute to a mix of existing application work, technical investigations and proof-of-concept development.
- Build and enhance front-end applications, with Angular used in the role.
- Explore AI integration options, including work on MCP clients and servers.
- Work across multiple repositories and get up to speed quickly in unfamiliar codebases.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects and product stakeholders to deliver practical, high-quality software.
- Write clean, maintainable code and automated tests.
- Support software running in on-premise environments and, where needed, cloud-connected solutions.
Qualifications
Required Skills
- Minimum 12 Years of Application Development Experience.
- Strong experience building applications using C# and .NET.
- Front-end development skills are required. Experience with Angular is required, we are also open to candidates with strong experience in other modern front-end frameworks.
- Comfortable working across different codebases and learning new technologies quickly.
- Solid software engineering practices, including testing, code review and maintainable design.
- Experience contributing to application development in Agile or iterative teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a flexible, hands-on approach.
- Strong skills in Using AI and cloud native platforms. Experience with AI integrations, developer tooling, or emerging technology exploration.
- Familiarity with MCP client/server concepts or a willingness to learn quickly.
- Experience with both on-premise software and cloud-based systems.
- Exposure to APIs, CI/CD pipelines, containerisation, or modern development tooling.
