In This Role
The BD Director, APAC Experience will play a pivotal role in driving the commercial growth and strategic expansion of Warner Bros. Discovery's experiential entertainment portfolio across the Asia-Pacific region. Reporting to the Managing Director, Greater China and APAC Experience, this position is responsible for developing and executing high-impact business development strategies that monetize Warner Bros.' iconic IP through theme parks, branded attractions, location-based entertainment (LBE), pop-up experiences, and strategic licensing partnerships. Based in Shanghai, the role requires deep regional market insight, strong relationship capital with real estate developers, tourism operators, retail landlords, and entertainment operators, as well as a proven ability to structure complex, long-term commercial deals in the experiential sector.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the APAC-wide business development strategy for Owned & Operated and/or Licensed experiential offerings, including studio tours, theme parks, immersive attractions, touring exhibitions, retail-integrated experiences, etc. to maximize monetization and brand equity of the WBD IP Portfolio.
- Identify and evaluate new experiential business opportunities in Owned & Operated and/or Licensed space withcommercial enterprise partners, governments, and entertainment operators, etc.
- Lead end-to-end negotiation and execution of owned & operated projects, major joint ventures, multi-year licensing, co-development, or operating agreements with project partners, theme park operators, tourism authorities, shopping mall operators across APAC.
- Proactively source, qualify, and cultivate relationships with high-potential partners; prioritize opportunities based on strategic fit, financial return, and brand alignment.
- Partner, coordinate and align with key stakeholders of the Global Experience functional teams, i.e. Strategy, Creative, Legal, and Finance teams for project implementation and execution.
- Oversee post-deal handover and ongoing partner support, including creative alignment, operational guidelines, brand compliance, and performance review.
- Ensure seamless integration with WBD's broader Global and APAC strategy, including synergies with Ad Sales, Theatrical, Consumer Products, Franchise Management and other business LOBs .
- Monitor APAC trends in tourism, family entertainment, urban leisure, and experiential retail; track competitor activity. Analyze local regulatory landscapes (e.g., foreign investment rules, cultural content policies) and consumer behavior to inform deal structuring and market entry strategies.
Education
- Bachelor's degree required (Business, Economics, Communications, or related field).
- MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in business development, strategic partnerships, or commercial licensing within the experiential entertainment, theme park, hospitality, tourism, or retail-anchored entertainment sectors.
- Proven track record of originating and closing large-scale, long-term deals (e.g., IP licensing for attractions, joint ventures with commercial partners, operator agreements) in APAC markets.
- Established network of senior contacts among governments and government agencies (e.g. tourism boards),commercial enterprises, theme park operators, entertainment venue owners, etc.
- Prior experience working with global media/entertainment IP holders (e.g., studios, anime licensors, gaming companies) in an experiential context is highly preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Attributes
- Fluent in English.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional strategic thinker with proven ability to develop innovative business models in fast-evolving markets.
- Outstanding negotiator and salesperson, comfortable at C-level with diverse clients and cultures.
