What you'll do...

Walmart Global Communications is seeking a visionary Creative Director to lead an in-house films team, responsible for shaping and delivering impactful video storytelling that embodies our brand and connects deeply with our audiences. This role blends creative leadership with strategic oversight, managing a team of talented cinematographers, editors, videographers, and producers to craft compelling, high-quality video content across all platforms and channels.

As the Creative Director, you will focus on big-picture strategy and creative cohesion, collaborating closely with other creative directors (e.g., design, editorial) to maintain brand consistency and elevate storytelling across all platforms. You'll also provide final creative sign-off and strategic oversight for high-priority projects, ensuring alignment with broader content goals and campaigns.

In addition to leading creative vision, you will assume operational, governance and people management responsibilities, including budget oversight, financial planning, resource allocation and executive-level stakeholder collaboration. This includes navigating complex organizational processes, coordinating across multiple functions, and ensuring efficient alignment within a highly matrixed corporate environment. You'll play a leading role in ensuring workflows are efficient, risks are mitigated and that production processes consistently meet brand standards. This role will be a key driver of innovation, integrating emerging technologies, tools, and storytelling formats to elevate the impact and relevance of video content across all channels.

What you'll do:

Vision and Strategy

  • Set the overall vision for video storytelling, production quality, and creative direction.
  • Provide strategic guidance and align production efforts with the overall brand and organizational goals and content objectives.
  • Define the standards for video content excellence, ensuring outputs consistently elevate the brand.

Creative Leadership

  • Oversee creative direction for all video projects, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines and campaign goals.
  • Collaborate with other creative leaders (e.g., design, writing) to ensure brand consistency across all creative outputs.
  • Provide final creative sign-off on video projects, stepping in for key approvals or strategic pivots.

Operational Oversight

  • Own the team budget and financial planning, collaborating closely with producers and financial administrators to monitor expenses, invoices, proper billing codes and proactively identify cost-saving measures.
  • Oversee the video producers to ensure resource allocation and team assignments are evenly distributed.
  • Partner with producers to streamline workflows, safeguard timelines, and optimize use of production resources.
  • Ensure leadership is informed, prepared, and equipped to make timely decisions.
  • Serve as a liaison across multiple stakeholders and functions, successfully navigating a highly matrixed corporate structure to align priorities, secure approvals and balance competing demands.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with high-level stakeholders, providing regular updates, insights, and status reports that enable executive decision-making.

Team Collaboration and Development

  • Inspire and mentor the video team, fostering a culture of creativity and excellence.
  • Collaborate with the cinematographer, editor, producers, and videographers to deliver high-quality content.
  • Support the team by resolving challenges and ensuring alignment on priorities and goals.
  • Identify training needs and facilitate training sessions or workshops to enhance the team's skills and knowledge.

Governance and Innovation

  • Establish frameworks and guidelines that inform the production team's workflow, processes, and final deliverables, ensuring consistency across campaigns and channels.
  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to safeguard all video assets, as well as the team and brand reputation.
  • Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to innovate and experiment with new formats and storytelling techniques.
  • Function as a champion for video innovation, integrating tools and methods that enhance storytelling impact.

What you'll bring:

Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in creative leadership roles within video production, ideally in an in-house or agency environment.
  • Proven ability to lead teams to produce impactful, high-fidelity video content.
  • Experience working in or adjacent to corporate creative teams or news/media background a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate operations, business strategy and financial management.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong creative vision and storytelling expertise with an emphasis on video but should carry application to other creative formats.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to align creative outputs with business goals.
  • Excellent leadership and team-building skills, fostering collaboration and innovation.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with proven success managing budgets, resources, reporting, and executive-level communications.
  • Expertise in video production processes, including cinematography, editing, and post-production.
  • Ability to navigate and thrive in a highly matrixed corporate environment, balancing multiple stakeholders, priorities, and approval processes.
  • Exceptional communication skills and executive presence, influencing stakeholders and pitching and presenting ideas effectively.

Technical Expertise

  • Familiarity with video equipment, production tools and workflows
  • Awareness of emerging trends and technologies in video storytelling, including GenAI tools and experimental platforms.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00-$220,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.

Minimum Qualifications...

Bachelor's degree in communications, Marketing, Fine Arts, Graphic Design or related field and 5 years' experience in creative or content experience, project management, or a related field OR 7 years' experience in creative or content experience, project management, or a relevant area.
3 years' supervisory experience.
