Job Description

Lead and manage multiple state tax audits, including working professionally with auditors, responding to IDRs, performing technical research, and delivering strategic, creative solutions for favorable outcomes.

  • Research and analyze complex tax issues, preparing position papers, tax impact models, audit protest letters, and IDR responses.
  • Determine appropriate tax reserve levels in compliance with ASC 740.
  • Participate in tax planning initiatives, contributing to projects such as R&D credits, M&A transactions, state tax strategies and credits & incentive negotiations.
  • Collaborate with external advisors on audits, strategic projects, and tax planning.
  • Support cross-functional teams by communicating audit developments promptly and recommending adjustments to filing positions or reserves.
  • Monitor legislative changes to U.S. federal and state/local tax laws, assess impacts, and identify opportunities or risks.
  • Maintain organized and accurate documentation for all tax controversy matters.

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in the office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.  ​

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelors Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6 or more years of work experience with a Bachelors Degree or 4 or more years of relevant experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or up to 3 years of relevant experience with a PhD
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field with 5+ years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 2+ years of experience.
  • 6+ years of progressive tax experience, including controversy work, in an accounting/law firm or large publicly traded company.
  • CPA license or JD preferred, MS in Taxation or LLM is a plus.
  • Strong state tax technical skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly explain complex issues.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results under tight deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners.

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 129,200.00 to 187,350.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity. Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401 (k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.
