The Opportunity:

We are looking for a Software Engineering Director who can set a company-wide example of how to lead individual contributors as they plan work, execute daily tasks, and improve operations so that the team can produce consistent, predictable output. They are expected to demonstrate the highest standards of personal accountability, communication, integrity, and collaboration. They are data-driven in their approach to problems and decisions, are always looking for ways to improve the way things are done, and they instinctively lead making these changes happen. When not coaching and mentoring the people on their team, managers are working closely with other members of the management team, key business stakeholders, and senior technical staff across the department to align on strategy.

The Work itself:

  • Collaborate multi-functionally to create design artifacts and develop best-in-class software solutions for multiple Visa technical offerings
  • Actively contribute to product quality improvements, valuable service technology, and new business flows in diverse agile squads
  • Develop robust and scalable products intended for a myriad of customers
  • Leverage innovative technologies to build the next generation of Payment Services, Transaction Platforms, Real-Time Payments, and Buy Now Pay Later Technology
  • Opportunities to make a difference on a global or local scale through mentorship and continued learning opportunities
  • Act as a role model in following the established Agile/Scrum methodology
  • Provide guidance and best practices for planning technical work, doing this work, reporting on results, improving processes, and ensuring that there are repeatable outcomes
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and managers within the Engineering department to deliver products of high quality, on time, and business aligned
  • Propose and lead the implementation of new or improved processes, practices, and methodologies so that we can move faster, more efficiently, and more easily delight our customers
  • Uphold the highest leves of application security standards by ensuring compliance with secure software development lifecycle best practices
  • Lift employee performance and instill accountability by leveraging the career roadmap
  • Scale the engineering teams to meet demand
  • Deliver both technical and people leadership, at a large scale

Essential Functions:

  • Aligns enhancements and modifications to existing software coding standard processes and design specifications, across regions, and ensures they are aligned with current security standards
  • Guides the implementation of automation to improve effectiveness and efficiencies of systems and tools across regions and supports development and implementation of new automation, identifying where investment will yield the greatest efficiencies
  • Maintains communication with regional leadership across functions to monitor and direct the cadence of code reviews, on-call rotations, and incident responses throughout product development and operations cycles
  • Leverages back-end technical expertise on underlying systems/platforms across the organization to lead the development systematic improvements in processes to ensure the fulfillment of customer/business objectives
  • Drive alignment and strategy across teams, regions, and functions, focus on long-term automation, efficiency, and global standards
  • Lead at the highest level, influencing broad organizational and regional strategies

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Math, Science, Engineering, or Computer Science, Information Systems or related field AND minimum ten (10) years of experience in a directly related field. OR
  • Master's degree in Math, Science, Engineering, or Computer Science, Information Systems or related field AND minimum eight (8) years of experience in a directly related field. OR
  • Minimum twelve (12) years of directly related experience
  • Minimum 5 years of development experience in a popular language like Java
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a software engineering team manager
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Spanish
  • An energetic motivator with refined communication and team-building skills
  • Proven ability to hire, onboard, manage, and foster accountability among team members
  • Demonstrated track record in building secure, reliable, and maintainable systems
  • Strong understanding of application development experience and how to partner with stakeholders in other departments to get more done
  • Passion for solving difficult/complex problems and leading people through change
  • Knowledge of modern Agile practices
  • History of exceptional technical skills in assigned product area
  • Fluent English


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with popular software development frameworks like spring and the spring ecosystem
  • Experience working with a wide range of architectures especially microservice and cloud native applications
  • Previous experience working in a continuous deployment software development model
  • Experience in cross-functional organizations, such as Backend development, DevOps, support, testing, documentation, or release management a plus
  • Experience in performing the Scrum Master function for a team a plus
