As a Video & Motion Design Principal, you’ll bring our brands and products to life through bold videos and motion graphics moving people’s hearts and minds. This role is based in New York City and reports directly to the Creative Director of our in-house studio. The studio is responsible for elevating Via, Citymapper and Remix brands, and delivering 360 communications to our riders, commercial partners and investors. You'll be a key player in our in-house Video & Motion practice, you’ll help concept, capture and execute video & motion content at scale. Typically projects include product launches, exclusive events, rider and partner success stories, investor presentations, and more. This role is perfect for a skilled video storyteller and motion designer who excels emotionally engaging audiences, while also thinking strategically and staying highly organized.

What You'll Do:

  • Elevate craft and output: Define, champion, and enforce industry-leading motion design quality, reflecting Via’s position as a global technology leader. Continuously explore and adopt new practices to push our motion design capabilities.
  • Strategic conceptualization: Lead high-stakes projects, transforming complex information into clear, impactful motion narratives that drive outcomes. Collaborate cross-functionally to translate partner needs into crafted digital experiences.
  • Systemic scalability: Evangelize design within the organization and architect net new, scalable motion guidelines, principles, and component-based systems that empower cross-functional partners and external agencies to operate autonomously while maintaining brand fidelity.
  • Cross-functional leadership: Senior subject matter expert, leading project management and execution across Partner & Product Marketing, Communications, Growth, Partnerships, Policy, and Finance. Bridge technical complexity and visual simplicity.
  • Mentorship and development: Actively mentor creative peers, instilling a deep understanding of craft, technical rigor, and AI-accelerated workflows to elevate the entire design organization's capabilities.
  • Accelerated production: Lead the integration of AI tooling and emerging creative technologies into the motion design stack for optimized, high-velocity processes to reduce production cycles without sacrificing quality.
  • Digital design pro: Communicate ideas through research, user/customer journey, wireframes/storyboards, prototypes, and final production. Product and UX/UI design knowledge is a plus for conveying features and benefits.
  • Empathetic approach: Address audience pain points through approachable design. Collaborate with product designers and partnerships to align goals and bridge knowledge gaps.

Who You Are:

  • A world-class motion designer with a minimum of 8+ years of experience in leading technology companies or high-growth SaaS/B2B organizations.
  • Deep expertise in translating complex technical concepts (i.e., data science visualizations, technical product infrastructure flows, process optimization algorithms) into intuitive, high-impact motion graphics.
  • A big-picture thinker who can seamlessly move between high-level conceptualization and pixel-perfect execution, under tight deadlines.
  • Proven experience in designing, documenting, and implementing comprehensive motion design systems and component libraries for global brand scalability.
  • Experience in generative AI, computational design tools, and real-time rendering pipelines.
  • Technical stack mastery across Adobe Creative Suite, Cinema 4D/Blender, Figma, and interaction design/prototyping tools.
  • Exceptional project management and collaboration skills, and a track record of successfully leading major cross-functional design initiatives.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Final salary will be determined by the candidate’s experience, knowledge, and skills. Salary reflected does not include equity or variable pay, where applicable
  • Salary Range: $125,000 - $160,000 per year
