People Operations Associate

Today New York, NY

Via is on a mission to create public transportation systems that provide far greater access to jobs, healthcare, and education. Our platform serves as the technology backbone for modern transit networks, transforming antiquated and siloed public transportation systems into smart, data-driven, and efficient digital networks. With hundreds of agency partners around the world, Via is recognized as the leading transportation technology and service provider globally.

As Via's People Operations Associate, you'll be the operational backbone of Via's People function - and the person who makes our growth real on the ground. Every time Via enters a new market, you build the HR infrastructure from scratch: hiring fast, standing up onboarding, navigating local compliance, and being physically present for go-live.  You'll own the learning experience that sets our Field teams up to succeed - building the curriculum, systems, and resources that scale knowledge across the org as we grow. This is a role for someone who thrives in motion, takes pride in building systems that scale, and wants to see their work reflected in every new community Via serves.

We’re a one-team culture, and you’ll be rolling up your sleeves to support across the board, whether it's stepping in for a short-term project, offering guidance to an employee, or diving into new HR initiatives. Collaborating closely with Via’s core HR team, you’ll act as a trusted partner, providing space for feedback and ensuring strong relationships with our employees. With great judgment, attention to detail, and a focus on process, you’ll help shape an employee experience that aligns with Via’s mission.

What You'll Do:

People Operations & Launch

  • Own the Launch Playbook end-to-end: HR setup, onboarding infrastructure, and local compliance for every new market Via enters
  • Travel to launch sites to provide on-the-ground HR support during new market go-lives
  • Drive compliance and policy administration across all states where Via operates
  • Manage corporate employee onboarding and offboarding mechanics, keeping the machine running cleanly as Via scales

Learning & Development

  • Own the full learning experience for Field teams: onboarding curriculum, 30/60/90-day check-in infrastructure, and manager touchpoint design
  • Coordinate and execute L&D programming end-to-end - scheduling, vendor management, participant communications, and feedback loops
  • Support rollout of manager development programs, tracking completion and translating feedback into iteration
  • Build and maintain Via's internal resource library: playbooks, guides, templates, and training materials that scale knowledge across the org
  • Maintain the L&D calendar and ensure training is integrated across performance cycles, launch waves, and onboarding cohorts

HR Operations

  • Support cross-functional People projects in partnership with the broader team
  • Build out traditional HRBP operations, with a sharp eye toward automation - learning the fundamentals while identifying where AI and tooling can eliminate manual work at scale

Who You Are:

  • A builder and an operator: you don't just document processes, you create them from nothing and make them stick
  • Energized by new markets and new challenges - you're as comfortable on a go-live floor in an unfamiliar city as you are managing a project plan
  • Detail-oriented and organized without being rigid; you can hold a lot of complexity without losing the thread
  • A strong communicator who can earn trust quickly with a new team, a new manager, or a compliance vendor you've never worked with before
  • Someone who understands that great People work is invisible when it's done right - and you take pride in that
  • 1-5 years of experience in HR, People Operations, or a closely related field; experience with multi-state compliance or new market launches is a plus
