Head of Personalized Indexing Technology

Vanguard is seeking a visionary and results-oriented technology executive to lead the Personalized Indexing technology organization. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for shaping the future of personalized investment through cutting-edge technology, scalable platforms, and seamless integration across the investment lifecycle.

As the Head of Personalized Indexing Technology, you will drive the strategic technology agenda, lead world-class engineering teams, and partner across business and enterprise functions to deliver secure, scalable, and innovative solutions that power Vanguard's differentiated offerings in the personalized indexing space.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technology Strategy & Innovation: Define and execute a forward-looking technology roadmap aligned with business goals. Evaluate emerging technologies and trends to drive innovation and long-term value.
  • Engineering & Architecture Leadership: Oversee the design, development, and delivery of robust, scalable, and secure systems. Champion modern engineering practices, DevOps, and cloud-native architectures.
  • People & Culture Leadership: Build, inspire, and mentor high-performing, globally distributed engineering teams. Foster a culture of excellence, agility, and continuous learning.
  • Cross-Functional Stakeholder Partnership: Collaborate with product, operations, enterprise technology, investment, and distribution teams to prioritize initiatives and deliver measurable business outcomes. Leverage deep understanding of investment systems (e.g., portfolio managers) and enterprise platforms (e.g., environment management, data infrastructure, cybersecurity) to align efforts and accelerate delivery.
  • Operational Excellence & Risk Management: Ensure operational resilience through automation, monitoring, and incident response. Proactively identify and mitigate technical and operational risks.

Qualifications:

  • Proven success in senior technology leadership roles with a track record of delivering transformative outcomes.
  • Deep experience with investment systems and portfolio optimization; CFA Level 1 and familiarity with Barra portfolio optimizer preferred.
  • Strong foundation in software engineering, systems architecture, and cloud technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to scale technology organizations and lead distributed teams.
  • Functional knowledge of the intermediary wealth market (e.g., RIA, Broker-Dealer channels).
  • Experience delivering technology solutions across the front-to-back asset and wealth management value chain.
  • Skilled in managing both vendor and proprietary platforms with a focus on strategic flexibility and risk mitigation.
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Expertise in Agile, DevOps, and modern software delivery methodologies.
  • Maintain availability during U.S. market hours to support trading teams and ensure seamless collaboration with global partners.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 25% Travel Requirement

Desirable Technical Experience:

  • Strong technical background with fluency in data structures, algorithms, and modern software engineering practices.
  • Hands-on experience with Agile/Kanban, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps automation, and code quality frameworks.
  • Expertise in event-driven architecture, microservices, REST APIs, security, testing, and high-throughput deployments.
  • Familiarity with business architecture, domain modeling, and governance frameworks.
  • Advanced knowledge of big data and financial data frameworks (e.g., Kappa, Lambda architectures).
  • Technical fluency in Python, Java, Kotlin, Docker, Redis/Elastic Cache, Apache Spark, PostgreSQL, AWS Cloud.
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., AWS) are a plus.
