Cloud Engineering Manager

Core Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop a high-performing cloud engineering team. Provide mentorship, coaching, and professional development to team members. Assess performance and make informed compensation decisions in accordance with HR policies and procedures.
- Lead a team responsible for developing, managing, and optimizing cloud platform capabilities across Vanguard's cloud environment.
- Drive adoption of automation and AI-enabled solutions to improve operational efficiency, engineering productivity, and cloud management practices.
- Partner with Platform Engineering, Architecture, DevOps, Infrastructure, Application Development, and other stakeholders to design and implement scalable cloud solutions.
- Establish engineering standards, best practices, and operating models that enable reliable and efficient cloud operations.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on cloud performance, availability, resiliency, and operational excellence.
- Develop and monitor metrics, KPIs, and OKRs that measure platform reliability, team effectiveness, and engineering outcomes.
- Collaborate with platform and engineering teams to improve visibility, operational insights, and overall cloud maturity.
- Lead cloud modernization initiatives and support adoption of emerging technologies and engineering practices.
- Build strong partnerships across technology teams to prioritize work, remove obstacles, and deliver business value.
- Stay current on industry trends, cloud technologies, AI capabilities, and platform engineering best practices.
Education & Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of related work experience required, including experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, or related technology functions.
- Undergraduate degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with a track record of building and leading high-performing teams.
- Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP and a strong understanding of cloud platforms, architecture, and engineering best practices.
- Experience leading technical initiatives in large-scale enterprise environments.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to drive complex technical decisions.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code, automation frameworks, and cloud-native technologies.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders across multiple levels of the organization.

- Experience with Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, or other AI-assisted engineering tools.
- Demonstrated passion for continuous learning and technology innovation.
- Experience leading structured process improvement initiatives.
- Experience with cloud automation, Infrastructure as Code, and platform engineering practices.
- Knowledge of Kubernetes, container platforms, and cloud-native technologies.
- Experience operating and optimizing enterprise cloud platforms.
- Experience building engineering roadmaps and leading transformational technology initiatives.
- Familiarity with FinOps, cloud cost optimization, observability, and operational excellence practices.
- Experience developing engineering metrics and leveraging data to drive decision-making.
