Business Continuity Advisor

As a senior member of Enterprise BCM and Vanguard's Enterprise Incident Response (EIR) team, you'll thrive in a global enterprise 24/7 responsibility that monitors risk signals across our workforce, workspace, digital, cyber, supplier, and financial domains-escalating and coordinating enterprise responses when seconds matter, including participation in an off-hours on-call rotation. You'll serve as the connective tissue across divisions, regions, and response partners-driving situational awareness, executive-ready communications (checkpoints, ENS messaging, channel updates), and post-event learning through Post-Incident Reviews and After-Action Reports that translate lessons into stronger controls, compliance, and resilience.

Beyond incidents, you'll steward the continuity lifecycle-business impact analysis, contingency planning, and executive exercise design-continually refining playbooks, training, and delivering executive-level tabletops so Vanguard is "at our best when things are at their worst." You'll also partner with key stakeholders to assess readiness while maturing standards, tools, and practices in concert with our business continuity management program. Ideal candidates bring 5+ years of relevant experience (including 3+ in business contingency/disaster recovery/incident management) and progress toward credentials such as CBCP/MBCP, CISA, or CISSP.

Core Responsibilities

1. Monitors resources including internal Teams channels, intel systems, news outlets, and professional forums/tools to maintain awareness of incidents that could impact Vanguard, our crew, clients, or reputation, escalating concerns that may require additional attention or enterprise coordination.

2. Acts as a primary liaison across the business, response partners, and divisional/regional response teams to coordinate activities, information sharing, situational awareness, and response for business recovery, crisis management, emergency management, communications, contingency planning and disaster-preparedness planning.

3. Consults on, communicates, and maintains business continuity lifecycle planning and business impact analysis. Identifies and quantifies the potential impact of various disruptions and disaster scenarios. Makes recommendations to management and presents business continuity issues to internal partners.

4. Facilitates post incident review and after-action report coordination and creation for major incidents and exercises. Monitors and reports on the compliance of business continuity processes, readiness, events and exercise results. Supports enterprise in relationships with audit and government regulators on business continuity issues.

5. Enhances the enterprise incident response process, related tools, best practices, and drills. Provides training, maintenance, and support for approved contingency planning tools and plans. Shares information on enterprise continuity processes, standards and initiatives.

6. Leads executive exercise design teams coordinating SMEs across divisions and regions to develop impactful exercises that improve response and resilience.

7. Demonstrates advanced communication skills and techniques for executive level summaries, incident coordination during checkpoints, PIR/AAR reports, ENS messaging, and community alerts through Teams channel posts.

8. Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years related work experience. Three years of business contingency or disaster recovery management experience.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.
  • Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) or Master Business Continuity Professional (MBCP) is preferred, Associate Business Continuity Professional (ACBP), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), or progress towards business continuity planning certification is preferred.
