Role Summary

As a Application Engineering Technical Lead, you will be a key leader responsible for shaping and delivering application engineering outcomes across the Investment Analysis API platforms. This role combines people leadership with technical oversight, focusing on driving consistent engineering delivery, guiding architectural decisions, and ensuring secure, scalable API integrations that support portfolio analytics and performance capabilities.

You will work closely with global stakeholders to align engineering solutions with business goals while maintaining strong engineering standards within a regulated financial environment.

Responsibilites

• Leads, hires, evaluates, and develops engineering teams, setting performance standards and supporting career growth
• Provides senior-level technical leadership and architecture direction for API-driven platforms across multiple systems
• Owns design, development, implementation, and maintenance of secure, scalable applications
• Evaluates architectural approaches and approves technical deliverables to ensure quality and alignment with standards
• Ensures comprehensive testing across functionality, performance, and security
• Reviews and approves technical solutions, resolving complex engineering challenges and performing root cause analysis
• Communicates with key stakeholders on project progress, technical implications, and risks
• Maintains and promotes adherence to development methodologies, architecture standards, and best practices
• Reviews and authors technical documentation, ensuring clarity and consistency across teams
• Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement in processes, tools, and engineering practices
• Participates in product lifecycle activities including design reviews, code reviews, and production readiness
• Ensures compliance with IT and Information Security policies and regulatory requirements
• Oversees integration of data flow across APIs and systems to ensure reliability, consistency, and performance
• Drives collaboration across global teams and functions to align delivery and architecture with business priorities
• Establishes and maintains documentation standards to support long-term system maintainability

Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum 10 years of experience in software engineering, application development, and technical leadership
• At least 5 years of experience managing engineering teams
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Strong expertise in Java-based development and backend systems
• Experience with AWS cloud services and distributed system architectures
• Solid understanding of API design, integration patterns, and security (OAuth, JWT, etc.)
• Experience with software architecture, system design, and enterprise application development
• Proficiency with databases (SQL and/or NoSQL) and data modelling
• Exposure to Node.js (preferred) and Python (nice to have)
• Familiarity with containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) is an advantage
• Experience with Agile methodologies, CI/CD practices, and modern engineering workflows
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in complex environments
• Experience working within financial services, asset management, or other regulated industries is preferred
• Proven leadership capability with a focus on team development, coaching, and delivery execution
• Strong communication skills with experience working across global teams
