USA TODAY Sports is seeking a dynamic WNBA writer who can deliver compelling, exclusive content across the professional and college landscape at the speed of news while simultaneously working on narratives that support the growing women's sports appetite around the country. The writer will work collaboratively with our Studio IX editors and reporters across USA TODAY's network. They will expected to break news and deliver a consistent flow of content to meet reader needs in the moment.

This role is remote and can be based anywhere in the US, except for Alaska and Hawaii.

Responsibilities:

  • Consistently deliver compelling enterprise on the biggest story of the day (within 24 hours) while simultaneously working on more deeply reported stories.
  • Shape coverage based on historical success and be able to adapt based on readership metrics and audience needs.
  • Proactively ideate and anticipate the next big story.
  • Collaborate with USA TODAY Network sports leaders to move news forward.
  • Create content with high utility on multiple mediums, including Instagram and YouTube.
  • Build a robust rolodex of high-value sources across the women's sports landscape and contacts to stay ahead of competition.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least five years of delivering high-impact journalism digital content and multimedia platforms.
  • Experience navigating sensitive news with precision, clarity and tact.
  • Strong social media skills and a willingness to adapt to new mediums.
  • Strong competitive instincts and intellectual curiosity.
  • Command of media law and Principles of Ethical Conduct.

The annualized base salary for this role will range between $55,500 and $86,719 Base compensation is reflective of many factors, including, but not limited to, the market in which one lives/works, individual education level, skills, certifications and experience. Note: variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable.
