As a Principal Data Analyst you will join an established team with Pharmacy Trade Relations (PTR) responsible for delivering the data and process foundations for acquiring, analyzing and integrating OptumRx Pharmacy Care Services (PCS) data to drive internal and external reporting from a Single Source of Truth dataset that helps address the needs of our clinically most complex patients and identify value drivers for Optum.

To deliver this Single Source of Truth that describes the Patient, RX and Value Drivers, the team owns and enhances:

  • Ways of Working: "Cloud First" approach to data and analytics work utilizing Azure, Data Factory, Databricks, GitHub, Power BI, Power Apps, Docusaurus and other tools to improve development velocity, transparency, testing and source control of our code / assets
  • Data Access: Onboard new data sources, obtain compliance sign-off, and roll out access
  • Data Model: Integrated Data Model at individual and integrated pharmacy levels that drives insights and reporting covering all aspects of PCS, including Drug Procurement (e.g. COGs), Revenue (e.g. Payor Contracting, Reimbursement & Claims), Operations (Shipments, Referrals, Conversion, Prior Authorizations, Patient Communications, etc.) and Patient Journey, and can be productionised by our Data Engineering team

We're looking for someone with solid functional & system design & implementation experience in a data / reporting environment, along with solid analytical, performance management and business acumen.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Role is an individual contributor position that will contribute to all aspects of the team while having a primary focus on the Integrated Data Model / Patient Journey work
  • Drive analytical & data projects, from ideation to production, while communicating requirements, scope, timelines, deliverables and outcomes to relevant stakeholders
  • Rapidly develop & iterate Proof of Concepts to deliver insights for near term impact before enhancing & documenting them for production
  • Actively consult with key stakeholders and subject matter experts across PTR, the PCS business, Data Strategy & Engineering teams to ensure appropriate content is incorporated into analytic approaches & data model development. Anticipate stakeholder needs and proactively develop solutions to meet them
  • Efficiently deliver on ad-hoc analysis requests from a wide range of stakeholders as required

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in discipline with solid analytical focus (analytics, mathematics, statistics, engineering etc.)
  • Proven solid SQL data analysis, data modelling / transformation experience
  • Proven functional & solution design experience through developing business requirements, translating them into data & system requirements, and designing & implementing processes
  • Proven project management / delivery experience in system implementation or data environments, with solid organizational, time management and problem-solving skills
  • Proven solid analytical skills, including the ability to understand complex problems, break them down into manageable components, and apply analytical techniques to find actionable solutions
  • Proven cloud data platform experience (any of AWS, Azure, GCP, Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, etc.)
  • Proven data visualization experience (any of Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, etc.)
  • Proven ability to be comfortable analyzing and interpreting large volumes of data from disparate data sources and a quantitative mindset
  • Proven experience in creating rapid prototypes (ETL, Analytics logic, ad-hoc analysis)
  • Demonstrated solid communication skills, able to work with stakeholders from multiple levels and disciplines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven industry experience with FMCG, Pharma or any retail experience, along with work experience with professional services
  • Proven Source Control (Git), CI/CD and performance optimization experience
  • Proven experience with our current tool set (Azure, Data Factory, Databricks, GitHub, Power BI, Power Apps and Docusaurus)
  • Proven experience in delivering predictive and/or prescriptive analytics in an industry setting that yielded real business value
  • Proven experience working in health informatics or within the healthcare industry or prior experience with Clinical data
