About the Role
The Growth/CRM Engineering Team under Uber's Growth & Marketing Platform is responsible for building Uber's end-to-end marketing technology and growth infrastructure. This includes powerful platforms for marketing automation, segmentation, personalization, experimentation, content creation, digital assets management, and GenAI-powered marketing.
The Bangalore (BLR) site plays a critical role in this mission, with multiple engineering teams focused on the following charters:
- Advancing AI-powered marketing innovation, including GenAI-driven tools to increase marketers' and ops' efficiency and productivity.
- Applying reinforcement learning and optimization techniques to enhance creative effectiveness.
- Generating insights and analysis to measure and improve marketing experience (XP) performance.
- Building and scaling digital asset management systems to support marketing and brand operations.
- Developing a growth ecosystem platform to enable seamless integration across Uber-wide systems and tools.
We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Staff Engineer to take on a site-wide architect role for our BLR Growth/CRM Eng teams. This is a strategic individual contributor role requiring strong technical leadership, cross-domain thinking, and a vision for scalable, intelligent systems.
You will partner closely with engineering and product leaders to steer the architectural direction, mentor engineers, identify and drive cross-team initiatives, and keep Uber's marketing and growth stacks at the forefront of innovation, particularly in the realm of GenAI.
---- What the Candidate Will Do ----
Key Responsibilities:
- Architectural Leadership & Technical Stewardship:
Own and define the long-term architectural vision and technical strategy for the BLR Growth/CRM teams, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and innovation.
- GenAI Vision & Implementation:
Lead the technical direction of GenAI-powered marketing solutions. Bring a pragmatic approach to AI system design, implementation, and deployment in production environments.
- Cross-Team Initiatives:
Identify and drive technical projects that span multiple teams, elevating the scope, impact, and collaboration across the BLR site.
- Industry Awareness:
Stay ahead of emerging technology trends (especially in GenAI and growth infrastructure), and apply relevant innovations to the team's roadmap.
- Site Enrichment:
Propose and lead initiatives that expand the scope and influence of the BLR engineering site within Uber's global Growth & Marketing Platform org.
---- Basic Qualifications ----
- 12+ years of software engineering experience with deep hands-on experience in system architecture and scalable distributed systems.
- Proven experience in driving large-scale platform designs and cross-functional technical strategies.
- Strong background in backend development, APIs, and platform engineering.
- Passion for GenAI technologies with a strong interest in leading and inspiring teams to innovate at the frontier of AI-powered marketing.
- Practical experience applying GenAI or ML/AI in production (e.g., integrating LLMs, building AI applications, etc.).
- Excellent technical communication and mentorship skills; ability to influence across multiple teams and stakeholders.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
---- Preferred Qualifications ----
- Hands-on experience with GenAI technologies such as LLM-based content generation, semantic search, vector stores, or RAG-based systems.
- Exposure to experimentation platforms and reinforcement learning techniques.
- Experience working in a globally distributed team with a strong site-leadership presence.
